Jesus, how many more times are the Dempsey acolytes going to dine off that goal!

Plenty of shit players have scored at OT and it was hardly a superb solo effort that was the difference maker either!

Strewth-a-rooney!

he was our third ranked scorer, he scored 7 goals and we only paid 5 million for him, how many are you expecting Paulinho to score?

I don't get Dempsey's hate. He was never going to be the typical Spurs flair player, but he has come up with goals when needed and works his socks off.

Clint Dempsey myth-busters 101;

Clint Dempsey works hard - he really doesn't and has resulted in an increased burden on our midfield to do the donkey work from such apathetic displays in tracking back and harrying oppenents. Bale wasn't much better but obviously his upside compensates this much more so than 'Deuce'.

Clint Dempsey is great at long range shooting - I couldn't think of a worse person, save Lennon, for such God-awful pop-shots from 20-25 yards out and has only served to waste good attacking positions when others could be played in.

He has chipped in with goals yes, but at what cost for conducive and cohesive attacking play in the final third, the lack of vision and, inexcusably for me, lack of work ethos which should be a pre-requisite for more 'limited' footballers.

I dare say his major upside is the increased exposure in the US of A but I certainly wouldn't shed a tear to see his departure from the Lane.

That was his first season with us, he might double his tally of goals in the coming season.

I didn't mention his long range shooting. He gets into the box for scraps, where was Ade for those? Yeah, he was on the wing. Dempsey's first season with us, in the manager's first season with new formation and tactics. Plenty of players have had worst seasons then that. If he stays, then wait until after next season before hating on him. I like Clint, maybe just one of a minority, but I do.

Dempsey did us no
Harm against Man United
Last season. Keep him.
Home and away.
Not everyones cup of tea and can be frustrating to watch, but he's got that instinct of being in the right place at the right time to nick vital goals.

How come this thread has become a Dempsey debate for the last three days? I guess there's ITK on him but it seems futile debating his worth to the team as both sides have valid arguments. He's just one of those players who splits opinion in the extreme which is proved by his 100+ page thread in Spurs Chat.

I'm a fan of Dempsey (admittedly because I'm American and he is the closest thing I have to a football hero), but even I have to concede that after watching him last season, his shortcomings are obvious.

He does work hard - but seemingly only when attacking. He is a lazy defender and seems to be VERY uncomfortable with possession, which is ridiculous for a midfielder.

I love the guy, but if we shipped him off (especially if it helps us get more funds for a good replacement), I'd be ok with it.

He doesn't work his socks off though... If anything his workrate sub-par. I think there's a misconception that because he isn't a flair player he makes up for it with an absolute shift. He's pretty lazy actually. This isn't knocking him I'm just sick of reading this analysis of him.

Dempsey was thrown horribly in the deep end, playing in the hole the 1st half of the season before Bale moved inside. The team was used to having a playmaker like Rafa in there and this wasn't his game at all. He needs creative players to spot his movement and feed his runs in the box.

I think his confidence was shredded by being asked to do something alien to him. He's a good "runner" but he needs "passers" to utilise him.

Ha ha ha! It's absolutely hysterical when you turn up spouting Spurs related haikus mate. Not sure whether you're one of A&C's alter egos yet, but keep up the good work regardless! :D

Some ITK has been posted

And here's a bit more. The next poster that harps on about Dempsey will regret it.

Goatie posted this:

Who: The Goat
When: 13th July
Where: SC

The Goat hears that our interest in Benteke is firm, but £20m is the ceiling. Also that we're looking for what was termed a 'wing forward', but no names were mentioned.

I hope the winged forward is in addition to Benteke?

Also I think Villa will take the £20 million and announce they got the full amount expected; £13 million profit after one season on a disgruntled player is good business.

Wing forward? That to me suggests 4-3-3 will be the main formation even more so.

Who would be a realistic wing forward though?
