Sandro is about as much of a sitter as you are going to find in a modern Premiership footballer. His natural game is to sit and destroy opposition attacks, dominate his area of the pitch, cover for his team-mates and pass the ball off simply. The fact that he breaks out from midfield now and then doesn't make him box to box, it just makes him Brazilian.

Yup, this is spot on.

Maybe the press just picked up that United are after a Dutch attacking midfield player and put two and two together. Seems United are going to be chasing Sneijder. I really can't see us letting VdV go and I think despite the recent goings on he is happy to be here.

What recent goings on IOMLS? Have I missed something?

He's been pretty honest to us, if United or Madrid comes in for him, he'd want out. If it comes to that, so be it, he gave us a great season.

Where do you come up with this nonsense, no disrespect..? None of the younger Dutch players (apart from the aging Ruud) wants to go back to Madrid. They've felt mistreated because the Dutch contingent were used as scapegoats.

I can see VDV wanting to join Man Utd. because they somewhat have a history with Ajax, having played in the Amsterdam Tournament 4 times and most of their Dutch players were connected to Ajax (Arnold Muhren, Jordi Cruyff, Jaap Stam & VDS)..

but back to Madrid? God no.

Could see Sneijder pushing for a Prem move to be fair.

No, he loves his life in Milan which is one of the reasons why he didn't follow Mourinho (back) to Madrid and with VDS retiring while Inter have just signed a young Dutch striker in Castaignos (and are intending to sign more Dutch players) there's even more reason to stay in Milan.

The only reason why he could be persuaded to joining Man Utd. is when they sign VDV since the 2 and respective wives (Sylvie & Yolanthe) are practically "besties".

Wow so some people would take the money. VDV has gone from hero to zero very fast. He's had more of an impact in his first season than Modric did in his first season. I definitely would not sell him especially not to Man Utd or and other challengers that just makes them stronger. VDV is one of our best players and to get him for 8 million was a real steal.

I have waited for us to get a player like this for years, no way should we sell.

He has been fantastic for us this season, and god only knows where we would be without him. I for one hope he stays.

But you can look at it from another angle, and see that £25 million for a 28 year old player who cannot last 90 minutes looks to be a pretty good deal.

Having said all of that, the article is a load of bollocks. Didn't Man U say they wouldn't be buying any players of a certain age after they bought Berba?

VDV does his best to avoid playing in the same side as Sneijder as they play the same role only Sneijder is better. And younger.

25 mil is a good price for VDV, Spurs will be very tempted to sell considering what you paid if this were true. You will lose your most experienced player though since he has more caps than any one else in your squad including gallas and is also your most heralded player.

Both VDV and Sneijder can perfectly play together as shown at Ajax and now in Oranje. The Dutch NT are flying ever since VDV plays in CM alongside one of van Bommel/Janssen/De Jong.

This whole "Dutch midfielders can't play in a 442" is nonsense since in the case of VDV and Sneijder they played with both Mido and Zlatan under Ronald Koeman and were the surprise package in the '03/'04 CL.

I thought you were a Spurs fan?

You probably know much better then me, and I never called him box to box (that was fletcher) but from what I've seen he is much in the Wilson mould as ball winner rather then as a player made to take pressure off the defence. Having said that its early days. Sandro has been brilliant in recent games, but had a bad start (yes he showed promise but was very clumsy), while I don't see him regressing from this point its far too early to understand how he will fit in yet

I support Ajax and have been following Spurs since the Jol and Davids days, but I can't really call myself a Spurs fan anymore considering the disdain of Spurscommunity towards the Eredivisie over the years and VDV lately.

Disdain? In terms of superiority it isn't even one of the top 5 leagues in Europe. When the quality of it improves, maybe people will show it a bit more respect.

Funny you say that since they've played together at Ajax and are doing the same now in Oranje.

And to quote a newsreport after last week's 4 - 0 win in Hungary:

Key to Holland's success in Budapest was their changed set-up in midfield as De Jong, Van der Vaart and Wesley Sneijder completely dominated play.

Laughable, you act as if the Eredivisie can compete with the top 5 leagues money wise? Hell, even Ukrainian clubs have more to spend.

The likes of Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord are suffering from the fact that Dutch laws forbids them of signing individual TV contracts.

Just because the clubs can't compete on a CL level, doesn't mean that their players can't as well, i.e. Suarez.

You can hardly blame us for your internal problems. Untill that gets sorted out within your nation, teams from other leagues are going to sign every little bit of talent you scout.

Nobody blames anyone. Holland is a small country, to have such a big impact on world football with so little means and for you to belittle that feat is.. let me say it again, laughable.
