We embarked on a great run of 11 games without defeat..

If you look at the general first 11 of that run, we've lost King, Modric and VDV, have Parker, Kaboul injured long term, and Adebayor for some mystifying reason has been on the bench for 2 games.

What a great 11 that was. And then you look at the 11 that started today.

I honestly think it's the worst starting 11 we've had for 7-8 years. A real combination of out of form, thick and lazy players.

Our best player in the last two games has been our 41 yr old goalkeeper.

We're nervie across the back. BAE has gone from having a wand of a left foot to being wasteful. Again we're reliant on Gallas to clean up too much mess today, (some of it his own)

Livermore doesn't wan't the ball, and doesn't get out of 1st gear, and Sandro thinks the object of the game is to give the ball to the other team and then make a glorious tackle.

Defoe is a greedy waste of space. Bale has been out of form for most of the last 8 months.

And Lennon has turned into Robbie Keane. Throwing his arms up everywhere, yet doing little himself. He want's to concentrate on staying out of boozers.

I felt sorry for AVB, because he must now feel that he can't change a team too quickly. When in fact, most of the shit out their today wouldn't have graced our first 11 at all last year.

Does anyone pay 1100 quid a year to watch shit like Defoe and Livermore make the starting 11? PLease AVB, never again.

I never thought I would say it, but I can't wait to see Parker put on a shirt again. Add to that, Dawson, Kaboul, and DEmpsey. We need some blood and guts back in the side.

Last year we had played both manchester teams which we wouldn't really expect to win - draw at best. We should be on 7 points on paper from these three games. We are on 2

This is my point. I don't think on paper we are worth 7 pts anymore.

On paper, the team that started the first 3 games, is BANG average.

Did we get 7 points from Newcastle away, and West Brom and Norwich at home last season?

Adebayor on the bench would be mystifying if he had a good pre-season under his belt.

If the alternative is Defoe from the start then I agree. But if he's not match fit then rushing his match fitness could result in injury and only Defoe for the next couple of months. Horrifying thought.

Yeah i know what you mean but he's not been injured. you can get an hour of fitness in two weeks. He made an immediate difference today, not even winning the ball, but making defenders make mistakes.

No we didn't, I don't expect them to go on a 11 game streak either, well not a winning streak;)

I was asking a poster who stated (not implied, stated) that we should had 7 points from these games, if we got 7 points from the corresponding fixtures last season - because, if we didn't when Mr Redknapp had a settled team that knew his system and was, why would he imagine we should just have to turn up to get 7 points with a new manager and lot of changes (many of whom were unavailable). I'm sure you can infer the rest of my meaning from there ;)

I know you were, I was just pointing out the blatantly obvious, that our results will be different this season, and no point in comparing games, unless its just for fun. I probably should have put it on th eoriginal post

We didn't get seven points from the games last season and I am quite certain we wont go on a massive winning streak again too.

I have a faint hope that AVB is letting Defoe play himself out of the team. He's a good asset, but is unfortunately not the player we need in our starting lineup. Add to that, Adebayor is probably unfit. He looked better today than he did against West Brom, and I think he'll be in good form for our next game.

The lack of creativity was pretty apparent. No Modric or VDV really hurt our play going forward today.I hope we'll improve when we can start Dembélé (and Dempsey). Still optimistic for the season ahead.

That may have been better (y)

I don't like to jump on Defoe's back, but every time he got the ball on the edge of the area and you just knew he was going to run from one end of the box to the other and back again until he got a shot off, any shot, even an incredibly weak shot, I just cringed.

Surely he won't play before Adebayor, or even Dempsey?

I don't like to do it either, and I really think he has a place in our team. It's just that he isn't cut out for the lone striker role. He's completely helpless, and showering him with long balls isn't helping him either. When all he really can do is finish, I expect better than what he showed us today. Extremely weak, and I really hope he's dropped for our next game. Like you say, he should be third choice.

Great impact sub though, so I hope we can keep him happy and fit this season.
