“It is always difficult for a supporters’ organisation to pass comment on the detail of transfer deals – deals that are business transactions conducted privately. We can, however, take note of the general approach to and results of the Club’s transfer activity.

“We have, in line with most fans, congratulated THFC’s Board on running the Club as a sustainable business – avoiding the financial problems that have affected many clubs over the years. We recognise the need to balance a sustainable business strategy with the need to deliver an entertaining and successful team.

“At the end of this season’s transfer window, however, we find ourselves questioning where we have ended up. Some areas of the squad have looked light as we played four games in August, and that remains the case as we move into the main part of the season. We welcome the good signings that have been made, but are concerned at the gaps that still exist and the pressure this places on the manager and the team.

“Spurs made the highest ever pre-tax profit in the Premier League last year – £80m. Revenues went up 22% to £180.5m. Ticket prices for top class games remain among the highest in the Premier League. Next year, the Club has informed us it wants to increase those prices.

“Many supporters are now questioning the relationship between what we pay and what we receive. We understand the Club is trying to finance a new stadium, but we have also heard that this will not be allowed to unduly affect the playing side. And no doubt we will be asked to dig deep to watch the team in the new stadium, once it is built.

“This is not the first time the team has gone into a season looking light. We believe fans have shown enormous patience over the years. But we understand why that patience is starting to run out. It is important the Club is run on successful business lines, but the success of the business depends on sporting success – the kind that attracts crowds and fills new stadiums.

“We think a credible explanation from THFC’s Board to address the genuine concerns of supporters, many of whom have backed the current Board consistently, is now required.”

Good statement which reflects our view. It could be a more aggressive statement, but I truly thank the trust speak out for us

Not really. Reasoned and well-written. Won't make a blind bit of difference but there are questions which should be answered.
It's pathetic, the whole reaction by a section of our fanbase to the transfer window is also pathetic.

Crying and whinging because we didn't sign MORE PLAYERS!!11 And trying to call the club to account for it, acting as if the club don't want us to do well. Acting as if everyone else in world football should just acquiesce whenever we decide we want something.

I don't think anyone is expecting us to sign Martial for 36m, or even Berahino for 25m. People are just upset that we didn't give ourselves a deadline for the latter, and have time to move on, and find some sort of adequate cover for Kane.

Profit from the club should be use to stop the inflated tickets and also getting top players. Anyway I dont believe at this point of time, increase revenue from season ticket holder will add significant revenue compare to TV money and Champion league.

Without UCL, revenue drop by 50M I think.

Don't think anyone is particularly whingeing because we didn't sign 'more players'. Most whingeing are doing so because 2 very clear weaknesses in the squad were not addressed. Weaknesses that anyone could see since the end of last season.

It's not about screaming about signing more players11111, and pretending this is the attitude being presented in the statement detracts from your argument. The squad is incredibly threadbare in key positions. There's no need to run over the details in depth again, everyone knows where we're weak - going into the season so totally reliant on Kane to stay fit and hoping with fingers crossed that somehow a pair from Mason/Bentaleb/Dier becomes a workable Premier League midfield is not good enough.

Exactly. Nicdic seems to be dismissing an entirely different statement from the trust, I'd be interested to see it if he has a copy.

You'd be happy if we signed a DM (I don't think we needed one) and a striker. That equates to two more players than we had already signed. But no, you're right it's not about that.

Mason and Bentaleb were a midfield partnership for a team that finished 5th last season, and I'd say our squad looks healthier than last year. So I think the statement is pathetic.

I find this point quite valid. Fans are only supposed to pay, more and more, on top of already expensive tickets and merchandise, but not entitled to expectations? One of the big flaws of PL I find, is that fans have no way to be directly involved, only indirectly at the very best. And the trust is not only there to be on the boards side. I support them issuing a statement. And I find myself inclined to become a trust member rather than spending the money on the club merchandise.

We have Dembelle, Carrol and Alli in midfield also, I agree a back up stiker was desprately needed but if we can manage to keep Kane fit until January we should be ok. I have said in other threads we seemed pretty confident on Berahino, even the player thought it was done.
