Liverpool did when they had a fit Gerrard, Mascherano and Alonso behind them.

What an attack/midfield that was, and it still couldn't win the league!

He has been awful for Spain. Is he just too good for that team aswell?

Torres has been playing first team football since he was 17/18 years old (he's already had a pretty long playing career). He has had a poor time with injuries. Considering how important pace and movement was/is to his game... I think he might be finished as a world class striker.

exactly, far too many miles on the clock, injuries have slowed him down and he has totally lost it between the ears

can see him going to someone like Villareal or Getafe in the summer for about £ 5 M

It would seem then that Liverpool didn't play to his strengths and neither do Spain.

See below - the cycle may have started at Liverpool, excellerated at Chelsea and dragged his Spain form down.

Psychology is a strange thang like that: at what point would a player like Torres be joining a Spain camp and thinking: "Fook, we are the World Champs...we have three gazillion top-notch strikers vying for my place...and I've scored a measly 2 goals in 19 games (or summit)...I is fooked" And wouldn't that really affect his performance in training and in games - knowing he was being watched like a hawk, like that

We are only speculating, here - for all we know, JT may have cornered him in the showers, first day and said: "See that biatch of yours back home, that biatch is MINE...you got summit to say about it Shit Striker Boy...my boy, here, Didier's just waiting to pummel yo ass (Eek)"

Thank you Kendall...yeah, but equally spectacular was the way the Scousers managed to dismantle it

People tend to forget how desperate Benitez was to bring in Gareth Barry and offload Alonso and by the end of that season Alonso was so pissed of by how he was treated went of to Madrid as Mascherano went to Barca and Liverpool were never the same side after that.

I will never forget it.
I remember saying (on here) that Alonso was a much better player and it would really serve benitez and the Scousers right if he was so p*ssed orf that he left...adn lo and behold next Summer he said he wanted out because of how that treated him =:rofl::rofl:

Is Benitez so stupid, really, that, leaving aside the merits of the two players, if he so publicly humiliates a player, like he did with Alonso, he'd best be absolutely certain of getting his target :duh:

I firmly believe that Torres in our side would score a silly amount of goals.

If you watch him play, he gets next to no service from the guys around him, and when he does it comes in the form of poor balls which he has to control, allowing a goal scoring opportunity to disappear. Couple that with a lack of confidence because the weight of his transfer fee is clearly taking a toll on him, he looks poor.

Well, I disagree with people writing him off, but you can't disregard the fact that he's been poor for almost a season and a half now. Hence while I'd expect him to come good there's a slight chance he's done for as well. Doesn't make the right kind of movement, has lost his touch and appears to have no goal scoring instincts left in his body. Yes, his service is somewhat limited, but that doesn't stop Sturridge from scoring, does it?

Would I take him for 15m - quite certainly should be value for money. Would I take him as our number 1 striker? Probably not. There would have to be someone like Ade - proven top quality Prem striker - or at least someone like Remy or Leandro in the squad as well for me to be comfortable with Torres.

It'd be a 50/50 gamble, IMO.
