Quite.

I mean, seriously, why would anyone leave Sevilla and join this version of Spurs.

I find that most posters on this site have a view of Spurs and its inner workings that differ from reality.

Spurs are the 10th largest club in the world and the sixth-largest in the Premier League. We were in the Champions League finals just two years ago.

We have the best training facilities in the entire world.
We have the best stadium in the entire world.
We play in the best league in the entire world.

The Premier League is extremely competitive now. I would say that there are really ten teams every season now that can compete for the Champions League spots and they are highly coveted. Arsenal who has bigger name recognition and a larger overall market value hasn't been in the Champions League since the 16-17 season.

My personal opinion is that many of the players nowadays are wimps. They want trophies given to them without actually putting in the effort to earn them. In the last five years, Spurs have been extremely close to winning some big trophies but it just didn't happen. Players didn't turn up, just a player or two short, injuries, etc... are our normal excuses! Then players like Kane, Walker spout off about having to leave to win trophies. What they should be saying is that if we had one or two more quality players we would win a major trophy.

What it is really about is money and when you hear the Champions League BS it is because players get additional income when playing in it as well as the teams playing in it are usually the larger ones.

I believe any of the top ten Premier League teams are attractive to players looking to play in the most competitive and the biggest league in the world.

You have to question a player's heart when they aren't willing to compete at the highest level. The whole mindset that there are only ten teams in the world worth playing for has to change for the good of the sport. I still can't get over the fact that the four other major leagues in Europe are so uncompetitive and the same 1-3 teams win 90% of the time.

I couldn't imagine how fans would react if in a league like the NFL if the same few teams won the Super Bowl every year. It would get pretty boring pretty fast for the fans of the other 30 teams. It is mind-boggling to me how fans can support their perpetual also-rans year after year across Europe's leagues and not demand some sore of parity being brought into the leagues.

His other options are Real Madrid and Man Utd

Still think we're attractive compared to them?

I agree, but I think you've missed my point. I'm glad his other options are those clubs because that's the level of players we should be aiming for.

There's no point replacing Sanchez with someone of similar quality to what we have and even worse if we sell and can't get a replacement at all.

By the same logic the club also shows a massive lack of ambition in the transfer market. Players want to win trophies and he will look at what will he win at Spurs

I just find it absolutely amazing that discussions were beyond even an 'advanced stage' with both clubs agreeing on terms of the transfer and then right at it's very conclusion the player reportedly announces he has no wishes to join us (n)
Surely he would have been aware of the two clubs talking about him so why didn't he declare his hand then and spare a lot of people a huge amount of wasted time and embarrassment ?.

I don't disagree with most of this, but it's kind of tangental to the point.

The reality is Sevilla are in the Champions League, we're not, and there's absolutely no guarantee we will be anytime soon, regardless of a final on fumes a couple of years ago.

He's 22, with lots of big clubs circling, bigger than Spurs, more likely to win trophies than Spurs, bigger wages than Spurs, as there is a premium on young players now.

He's got a season in the Champions League to look forward to and establish himself at that level. Why would he opt out of that upward trajectory to join a painful rebuild (admittedly while training at a lovely setup).

A bit like De Light or De Jong, who were once seen as maybe people we'd sign on their way up, they jumped the 'on the way up' club and went to the top tier because the system, in some ways, has changed.
