Andre Villas-Boas admits it was flattering to be approached by Paris Saint Germain in the summer, but he has no regrets as he believes Tottenham are more advanced in their progress than the French champions.
Following Carlo Ancelotti's departure to Real Madrid, PSG considered a number of names, one of which was Villas-Boas.
The Spurs boss admits that he was temped by a move to the French capital but he is happy to have remained at White Hart Lane.
"PSG? I have a very good relationship with chairman Nasser al-Khelaifi, I talk regularly with him," Villas-Boas told French daily L'Equipe.

"The fact PSG contacted me was known but I wanted to stay a second season at Tottenham, building on the job I did last season and spending two seasons in the same club for the first time in my career."
Andre Villas-Boas

"With Nasser we have mutual respect. The fact PSG contacted me was known but I wanted to stay a second season at Tottenham, building on the job I did last season and spending two seasons in the same club for the first time in my career."
The Portuguese coach says the fact Spurs took on board his opinions on matters such as the appointment of Franco Baldini as sporting director played a big part in him staying.
"The club listened to me on several decisions, notably hiring sport director Franco Baldini. I wanted to go on with the project here," he continued.
"I was attracted by the PSG project, indeed I believe PSG is attractive.
"If other people like the way you coach, it is flattering - but Tottenham is a very great club. PSG is experiencing structure change that Tottenham has already done. Tottenham is one step ahead.
"Considering the last two years of investments at PSG, the ambition is to win the Champions League, our ambition is be in it."
Despite his contact with al-Khelaifi, the Spurs boss says PSG's interest never got as far as to him having to turn down a firm approach.
"Did I receive a concrete offer from PSG? We never reached that step in our talks," he said.

Could that imply that AvB wants to just stay for a second season and leave? Or, am I reading into this?

I don't see why he'd want to leave yet, he looks very happy at the moment and this is now his team rather than Harry's team. They're playing well and following his tactical instructions, he also has the full backing of Levy/Lewis. He'd have to be crazy to walk away any time soon.

A new contract is needed, one that pays him the going rate for a manager of his dimentions and some add ons for cup wins and CL qualification.

At the moment, AVB's system is the reason we've been doing so well and I would hate to see him leave at the end of the season.

If I were Levy, I'd be waiting until Xmas time to see if we're still flying high and then start looking at how we can make this man our Fergie.

I'm sure he will get plenty of offers next summer too. Over to you Levy.

Laudrup got to be the go to guy if it were to happen. He's been very impressive at Swansea.

If I were Levy, I'd be keeping a close eye on Mauricio Pochettino.

Has done a very good job thus far and many similarities to AVB, it seems to me.

Obviously, though, I'd far rather that AVB stays for many years.

He often refers to general short-termism (that's not a word) in his interviews. If I was a chairman reading interviews like that, I'd be all over him in the summer. I'm sure he has some sort of agreement with Levy re staying longer but if you read his interviews and take nothing else into consideration, it does seem like he's saying a second season at one club is a massive achievement for him and a third would be unlikely.

Hope he stays for a long time but he wants to manage all over the world as well as do that rally thing before he's 45. I can't see him staying long term anywhere. As I said, I'm sure he has discussed this with Levy and if he has hinted he'll be off sooner rather than later, hopefully Levy has already thought about replacements. Saying that, if we got CL footie, why wouldn't he want to stay around and guide us through it.

If he decided to leave after this season, the only replacement I'd be satisfied with is Tony Pulis. Or maybe get Neil Warnock out of retirement.

As soon as he gives a decent MOTD interview in english. But yes, he has been very very good. Southampton have gone about their business well and I thought they were foolish to sack their previous manager when they did. I got that well wrong.

It's an interesting one. I don't think AVB will leave if we get the CL spot this season and he's loved and looked after by the fans and the chairman (in the way of a healthy pay packet and a deep transfer fund). He seems to get on very well with the players, even if there is some collateral damage as a result of his strict philosophies (BAE, Ade)

If we don't get CL and he gets an enticing offer from abroad, he could well be off.

If he gets us into champions league i cant see him walking away from taking his side into europe can you?

He wont be out Ferguson but I can see him wanting to lay down a bit of a legacy.

Me too.

Regarding his English, I saw a discussion on MOTD2 Extra on Sunday morning and one of the guests (a journo) said that he had visited the Southampton training ground recently and that everything there is conducted in English. Pochettino actually speaks English very well now. Just prefers to give interviews in Spanish until he's more confident that he won't get something badly wrong.
