A Spurs source has told Football Insider, that there is a £30m buy option in the Napoli loan deal that is triggered if they secure Champions League qualification for next season.

The Serie A club are well placed to do so after an excellent start to the campaign.

They are top of the league, eight points clear of second-placed AC Milan, and topped a Champions League group that included last season’s finalists Liverpool on the back of five straight wins.

Nice if we can get that done. Could still be an incredible player, but not here.

Feels too good to be true
I believe it is 30m Euros .....about 25m English pounds. And that still seems too good to be true,
This was mentioned when he went and I found it hard to believe. It was almost a cast iron cert that they would get ch lge at the start of the season as they finished around 15 points ahead of 4th last season. It is now a foregone conclusion. I pray this is right. To get 25m for Tanguy ...still cannot believe it.
Where’s that right wing back. Just need some money from Reggie and Lo Celso in the summer.

Nothing to see here. Operative word here is 'Option'.

Same sort of 'Option' we had with Gedson and Vinicius i'm afraid.

If it really is only an option, it's completely illogical that Napoli would only get the option to sign him permanently if they qualify for the CL. Surely both clubs would have been equally content for there to be an option irrespective of CL qualification - with Napoli simply more likely to choose to take up that option if Ndombele performs well plus they qualify for the CL (therefore having more funds available). The CL qualification clause literally makes no sense at all unless it's actually an obligation.

It's my limited understanding, that the 'option' in this instance safeguards Napoli from Spurs over-pricing Ndombele come an end of season sale.

Imagine Napoli won the league, and UCL. N'dombele gets player of the year and in the UCL team of the year. It just means that Spurs can't go back to Napoli when the latter presumably trys to turn the loan into a permanent and is priced-out by the parent club. Essentially the £30m fee would already be in place and therefore pre-agreed.

He could be a quite good player with flashes of brilliance. Nothing I've seen from him in 3.5 years suggests he could be incredible. I think people have an idea of Ndombele that doesn't really reflect reality. He's been alright for Napoli but I doubt they'll be taking up this option (if it is an option).

Some of his passing when he was with us was absolute quality with a combination of accuracy and weight of pass. That's a level of talent that most players never get near. Unfortunately, we all know the flip side though.

surely Napoli would ask for loan for another year instead of taking up the option. everyone knows that we are desperate to offload him

30m is certainly not cheap for someone who has only 12 months remaining on their contract.
Has he only got 12 months?
I seem to remember getting excited that we tied him to a six year deal and it can't have been that long yet.

I confused myself by looking up his contract end date and somehow misreading it. Must have been optimistic thinking. :X3:

AFAIK he's not been a big part of their success this season and has mostly warmed the bench. Just had a look and he's got 18 appearances but only about 737 minutes, so he's clearly a backup.

Fully expect them to comfortably reach the CL then look at Ndom's wage demands and promptly turn down the option to sign a squad player for 30 mil.
