Clement Lenglet was one of many Barcelona players that left Camp Nou on loan last summer in favour of more game-time elsewhere. He joined Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal, as part of Xavi’s plan to make space in the defensive unit.

Although the Premier League giants do not have an option to permanently buy the player at the end of the season, the Premier League club have showcased the desire to make an offer to Barça this summer, in an attempt to secure his deal on a permanent basis.

Don't believe it personally, would have to be really cheap and used as a back up option (even them I am not sure). Nice guy, decent in possession, but not quick / strong enough for the Prem and gets caught out of position too often IMHO.

I can't see it personally and expect this is just wishful thinking on Barcelona's part. He's one of the top earners at the club, and I doubt we'd offer him anything like parity with his current Barcelona deal.

Earlier in the season I thought this kind of move made sense as a cheap way of providing some quality depth at CB but having seen more of him I've changed my mind.

We need serious upgrades at CB and are already on the brink with homegrown players. Given how hard we've found it to get rid of Sanchez the last thing we need is another non-homegrown 27 year old squad player on big(ish) wages that won't noticeably improve the first 11.

Makes even less sense if the next manager plays with a back 4.

I think we’ll go for a new centre half, interesting to see if we go for two though, as Conte plays three, but I’ll think he’ll be off and Poch plays a back four.

He's unbelievably slow on the turn. I sit in the south west corner and watching him up close is a bit scary. He is absolutely flat out just to keep up with the game.

We have one World class centre half in Romero, Dier is 29, and Davies turns 30 in April and are simply not good enough. Disagree all you want but when we get beaten you can see where the issues are and they revolve around Dier, and or Davies.

They both look good against teams sitting deep or with piss poor strikers like West Ham, but against well drilled attacking teams our center backs are the real issue.

Lenglet is just 27 and i think Conte will keep him. Sanchez has said that he wants first team football and Tanganga needs shipping out.

As for pace Romero was beaten for pace at the weekend, (I think by Ings?). There are no quick center half's in the PL, and they aren't brought for their speed.

I think two will likely be brought in, and Dier, Lenglet and Davies fill in as cover and squad rotation. I admire both Davies and Dier's longevity at the club but what other top six or seven side would either of them get a start?

He also lacks aggression and gets beaten phySically, his not a keeper.

Romero is a few classes above all our defenders, Clement was our weakest link sunday.

We need two CBS at least the only defender I would keep is CR

Dier not good enough
Davies squad player
Sanchez not good enough on the ball, or defensively sadly physically his our best CB
Rondon, why did we buy him
JT has looked defensively suspect

We prob have a load more defenders we have forgotten about, CB is an area we have not invested in fir to long.

he is a regular starter. that implies there is a some truth here if we cant get an alternative.

Lots of good points although some CBs e.g. Rudiger are quick

It just screams lack of ambition if we sign him though. Ideal word where signings improve on the current squad we shouldn’t be signing him as a rotation option.

Is he any better than Rodon?

He's a LCB and Davies isn't out of contract in the summer. Only need one of them for the squad. Rather pointless unless there's good offers for Davies. New clear first choice signing needed.

If we dont qualify for CL then he'll be returned imo.
And a lot will depend on the next manager. Poch (if it's him.) will presumably revert to a back 4, and the CBs are likely to be Romero and Dier. backups Sanchez and Tanganga.

Having written those options, it sounds pretty scary.

If this is true then signing Lenglet on a permanent deal will tell all spurs fans what they need to know about the ambition of the owners.
