Been looking at the kid from Dortmund doubt very much we could get him though.

Thuram been playing more centrally these days. Rumours of Bayern being interested. Not sure we need another 9 to be honest unless Son goes.

Youssoufa Moukoko:
6 goals & 4 assists in 14 Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
6 goals in 5 games for Germany U21s.
141 goals & 27 assists in 88 appearances (almost 2 goal contributions per game!) for Dortmund's U17 & U19 teams during 2017-2020, while aged only 12-15.
Still only 17 - turns 18 on Sunday.
Plays as a central striker (no.9) and occasionally as a second striker (far less prolific in this role).
Contract expires in the summer, so a pre-contract could theoretically be signed in January.

Looking at how other young players have developed at Dortmund in recent years, I wouldn't blame him for signing another contract there and then looking to move on to a "big" club once in his early 20s. He certainly doesn't need to rush at his age.

I watch quite a lot of German football. At every age group Moukoko has excelled and exceeded expectation. He joined from FC St Pauli (I'm a member) so I've followed his progress a bit. Yes, he's still very young, but if he keeps his current rate of progress up he will be too big for us, I think we should try very hard to get him now. He will go to the very top imo.

I think this season has shown how much we are reliant on Kane to both create and finish chances. Son's off the boil. Kulu was injured. Richy hasn't hit the ground running. Lucas/Gil have been injured/not trusted. Think it's clear we need more up front, even if only to prepare for the day that Son/Kane are finished/sold. Given the hype around Moukoko and his contract situation, I would definitely be up to give a massive offer to convince him to join us. As others have noted, it's doubtful he disturbs a good thing right now given Dortmund's history of selling when the time is right.

Wouldn't be averse to getting in someone as young as Moukoko to ease into the fold but Thuram makes less sense because I think Son and Richarlison's best positions are central. Really don't want another situation where we get another attacker in the team and stick him out wide where he's little more than average. Having said that I don't think it would be a disaster if we moved Son on this summer if we get a decent price for him, and if that happens maybe Thuram fits the bill.

It's interesting as most of the opinions (and my own observations) tell me that Richy/Son's best position is coming in off the left as opposed to central. Kane's best position is central. I think Richy is the long-term inheritor of Son's place (should Son be sold/injured). Kulu is the main man on the right. Ideally all recruits will be tactically flexible and able to play multiple positions. But ideally we would get someone who can properly play #9 and RWF (to give Kane and Kulu a break from time to time). Ideally they would be creative/able to carry the ball like Kane and Kulu in order to spread the chance-creating around more.

I also think that it's too early to start imagining selling Son. I think a lot of his issues this year so far have been mental, which is understandable given the World Cup and his importance to South Korea. Each player carries that differently but I think it most likely has weighed heavily on Son (and Richy too FWIW). I'd like to see what happens with Son after the WC and with some more mental/emotional freedom.

Just my two cents.

Do you reckon they’d entertain a buy and loan back for a season?
