Pisses me off in the end that we did the whole Janssen out Llorente in thing. Not because I think Llorente is a bad player or that I blame him. But when he arrived I thought we had a PLAN for using him. Turns out we didn't at all, and we might as well have stuck with Janssen rather than doing that whole switch.
I was very vocal that I wanted to keep Janssen for another year, you can go back and have a look at it. Once that wasn't happening and the decision was to sign a new striker, I was excited about Llorente because I thought there was a rationale behind it and that we had a plan for him, which clearly we didn't. It wasn't Llorente's fault it didn't work out, he was bought like a singer and asked to perform like a painter. Why didn't we at least try to put up a concert.Yeah but no-one can see into the future. I bet it didn't piss you off at the time. Fact is the plan was that he would be better when he came on and he ruined that plan by looking like he'd never played before. Playing shit will put all footballing plans to bed very quick.
I agree it's difficult, but that alone was not a good reason for Janssen/Llorente out/in. Llorente actually, in theory, brought a different sort of flexibility to the squad and I was excited for that. But when we never ever tried to actually capitalise on that, we might as well have kept around the young striker that wasn't quite right, rather than signing the old striker that really was not right.
