Whether you, me or anyone else thinks Grealish was/is good enough is neither here nor there - the club were set to bring him in prior to the takeover at Villa. But it does show the sort of money we had available for a CM - £20-25m - and also the sort of thing we were looking for. We could have got Torreira for that (correct me if I'm wrong), but he's not really the same sort of player. We also had info (from @Hercules I believe) that Poch knew he wanted to use Sissoko in CM having previously deployed him in the AM3.

Don't get me wrong, I think we need a new CM as well, but what we as fans want appears to be out of the club's price range at the moment, for pretty obvious reasons.
I'm not sure what £20m could have gotten us, but we were supposedly willing to pay 70 odd for De Jong, so I think the money was there if we could have found the player that Levy felt was value for money.

Regardless, you said we didn't need to get a sign one last Jan, when we've needed to sign midifielders for a while now. We haven't bought a single midfielder whose strength is passing or keeping the ball since Poch took over, which is worrying.

The point is those hurdles should never have been there in the first place .We should have bought players and stadium should have been finished .
Appreciate we have done well in the circumstances it's just some have higher ambitions and aspirations than others !
I wouldn't say that, Jay. I think we all share very much the same ambitions and aspirations, don't you?

Yes and no. Clearly we’re not buying a 70 million player demanding 200,000 a week. But equally, we should be capable of landing a player in the bracket below. Dembele is gone, Wanyama is dead, Dier has been inconsistent. We’ve not spent a penny from our transfer budget for two seasons- the money should be there because Danny Rose in central midfield is about severe a form of nihilism I can imagine
I agree although, again, Rose has been deployed in CM in previous seasons as well and was only there today due to injuries to 2 of our 5 CMs. Plus two windows, not seasons.

I think we'll sign Berge (or similar) in the summer and predict that such a signing won't be good enough for many, despite last summer's equivalents (such as Lobotka) now cropping up on numerous wishlists.

No idea what most of you lot are talking about. According to Pochettino, we were the better team.

Danny was a central midfielder when we bought him at 17. You can see why he didn’t make it in that position. His passing was abysmal.

1 point from 9 is not acceptable. We have 7 points from 24 against top 6 and we have two games away against the top two. Says it all. We are back where we were 3 years ago?

If you can't be good, be fucking lucky.

Fortunate to get a point, and I'll take it. But another shocking mistake in a big game, for Ramseys goal. What Sanchez was thinking, I have no clue, naive beyond belief. Happens almost every big game, stupid fucking mistakes from someone.

Be thankful for the point, and pray Dele gets fit asap, because we're seriously missing his threat going forward.....COYS

And his work rate. We are properly missing him and his return can’t come soon enough. We need him for the whole of the rest of the season though so I understand if we don’t rush him back.

Can’t wait for the season to finish. No stadium, no signings, no CMs, selling our best CM in January. All the injuries, the hangover from the 11 World Cup players. United, Chelsea and and Arsenal should be embarrassed that Spurs are ahead of them.

At least my weekend isn't completely ruined again, a win against Southampton and Arse lose to Utd next week and we are 7 points in front with 8 games left. There are some real knee jerkers on here and my ignore list is growing at speed lately , makes reading threads much quicker.
Edit Utd losing things are not as bad as some on here make out

Usual bbc match report. Arsenal get a penalty because of a foul we get penalty because kane was adjudged to have been fouled

They didn't mention the stud rake on Kane which wasn't a foul just before they scored ? Course not.

Hope so. Equally, Lamela really doesn’t look that great. In the past he’s been incisive but more recently he’s laboured and largely ineffective. I’ve really changed my mind about Moura too, whose application has been dreadful lately- I generally avoid emotive hyperbole but he was a disgrace against Chelsea. It’s been evident why PSG rarely played him.

It feels we have a fair bit of rebuilding to do over the summer but I’m not convinced how successful this will be
