Nup. Said as much myself, whilst the game was carrying on. We were dogshit, they were excellent. After all that, it's 2-2.

I did say that before Bale got knackered but I still remain reasonably confident. Would very much like it if Lloris played from here on out however.
Hang on a minute geezer. Only defeatist talk allowed on here! ;-). Lloris does make the difference as the defenders are confident that someone will clean up their mess rather than staying on the line. I still fancy us without Bale and Lennon because they didn't do much tonight. We do have a team without them peeps, just time for the others to step up.

Yep. No hiding place for any of them now. I have a feeling Siggy will really step up. Hopefully one of Ade or Holtby/Dempsey (both would be wunderba) will as well. We need them to do that with a fit Bale. Time to really be counted now if he's out.

It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. I admit to apprehension and a slight pessimism but that's only me suffering from battered wife syndrome when it comes to THFC and expectations. Hoping this group can do a citeh away type surprise.

Also echoed your thought on Lloris. The defenders need to club together and get him a bloody nice gift at season's end. He makes it very easy for them at times.

I think we've got a great chance of still winning the cup. Less confident on us getting 4th without Bale, but I guess anything could still happen.

I still think we will do both as my glass is always empty!! ;-) (I was christened Nicola by the lot under the cover in the B&H tonight. They don't like my singing apparently!) :)

Haha you still rocking that number? You were in fine voice after the Fulham game!

I think Lennon's fitness is huge. He always seems to step up when Bale is out - probably because he sees more of the ball.

It's the only song I know!! Lennon was holding his hamstring when he went off so I am not holding out much hope. We still have enough to win the cup and get 3rd. I think.

Best team we've played at home this year tbh. Our defence was atrocious (high line and Friedel doesn't work. It never has, it never will) but taking nothing away from them, they were superb.

glad to see tottenham's season is finally unraveling. dont even deserve to be 5th.

I am forced to ask, "Are you a Spurs fan Dempey2?" "Glad to see tottenham's season is finally unraveling" is the kind of quote I would expect to read from a Spammer or Gooner, but not a Spurs fan.

Why would any Spurs fan have that opinion?,... ever..... Good luck and best wishes for you in your search happiness? Perhaps West Ham avoiding relegation makes you glad as well?...

(n)

But, I do not think you'll be glad as I expect Spurs to finish top 4 and progress past FC Basel in EUROPA, so:

COYS!!!!!! :mask:

Sorry to say it, but we're supposedly taking the competition seriously but we play a very average back line? I totally respect AVb for wanting to stick with the team thats got us this far, but we're treading water in this competition now. If we really are serious then we need to be at our absolute best in Switzerland.

Still some positives. We looked better after Dawson came on, and Sigurdsson played well, with an excellent goal to boot. And even Adebayor showed some athletisicm to score. If only Scotty had shooting boots...

Agree with this - the current squad is not strong enough to fight on these two fronts.

I think the last three rounds have proved this. AVB was a tad optimistic but I don't mind optimism although I don't proscribe to this thought process personally ;) .

I have to say again Basel were excellent - good to watch

We got out of jail last night, Basel deserved to win. Verts got roasted by Salah like roast chicken all night. People were laughing and cheering and saying we are through to the semi's before a ball was kicked, lol some people never learn.

I think you will find that those bigging us up last night no feck all about football - Basel played a blinder against Man U last season, they are a class act.

AVB will learn from this foolhardy Europa campaign, although I believe AVB was using the competition to build team spirit in the main. I think he will be annoyed today.

I agree with your first half of your reply but not the second. Why do you say foolhardy Europa campaign? We are in the quarter finals, with a chance of getting into the semi's.

Foolhardy only because of the lack of depth in the squad allowing our main aim is to finish 4th^.

Last night we looked awful for long periods once Lennon went off and our priority should be 'in my opinion' Everton.

Using Lennon last last night was a little silly in my book we needed him fit for the run in.

Bale was just in some ways bad luck, but AVB should at least learn a big lesson from last night and its that 'shit happens' it need little encouragement.

Football is all about glory - they say.................I'm not feeling the glory this morning.

I have enjoyed the drama of the Europa campaign, dont get me wrong.
I personally would not played Lennon last night and would have played the 'higher line system' with Lloris IF we are were taking it so serious?

If not! play some youngsters who looked good at Liverpool on Monday.

Isn't Lloris injured? The lack of depth is Levy's fault. What happens if we get to the champions league are you saying you wouldn't want to us putting the best side we can in that competition?

Levy? Sorry he hasn't got anything to do with this - unless he's been hiding around £200m p.a. stuffed in his magic mattress.

Sadly for some the stark reality of football is the mantra in priory order "EPL Top 3/4, then Champions League (but depending on league standing) then a long long way back - Europa - FA and League cups.

It's pure economics.

EDIT Lloris I think was fit!
