Spurs seek to keep league run going against struggling Trotters
Struggling Bolton face a daunting task if they are to pull clear of trouble on Saturday as they travel to White Hart Lane to tackle in-form Tottenham.
Spurs may have lost to PAOK Salonika on Wednesday to virtually extinguish their hopes of progressing in the Europa League, but domestically Harry Redknapp's men have been superb.
They are unbeaten in ten Premier League games and have picked up more points since the end of August than anyone else in the division, having dropped just two.
While Manchester City and Manchester United were held last weekend, Tottenham came from behind to beat West Brom 3-1 and fuel discussion about their title credentials.
Redknapp and a number of his players have stated this week that Spurs have the potential to come out on top in what is expected to be a fiercely contested battle between several teams.
Tottenham are currently two points adrift of second-placed Manchester United and can go above them on Saturday, even if it is only for a couple of hours before the Red Devils travel to Aston Villa.
Redknapp named a stronger than usual side for the continental clash with PAOK but there were still a number of fringe players involved and he will make changes for the visit of Bolton.
Brad Friedel is set to come back in for Heurelho Gomes between the posts, while the regular back four of Kyle Walker, Ledley King, Younes Kaboul and Benoit Assou-Ekotto were all rested in midweek.
Luka Modric returned after missing the win over the Baggies and is expected to keep his place, while Redknapp will be hoping to welcome back Rafael van der Vaart from a hamstring injury.
Michael Dawson (Achilles), Tom Huddlestone (ankle) and Niko Kranjcar(thigh) remain long-term absentees.
Bolton news
Bolton also have several injured players, with Marcos Alonso (ankle), Ricardo Gardner (hip), Tyrone Mears (broken leg), Lee Chung-yong (broken leg), Stuart Holden (knee), Sean Davis (knee) and Ricketts (calf) all still sidelined.
However, defender Dedryck Boyata and striker David Ngog both return to the squad for the match at Tottenham.
Boyata has been out since October with an ankle injury, while a knee problem has restricted Ngog's involvement recently but both trained this week.
Midfielder Nigel Reo-Coker is a major doubt after injuring a hamstring last weekend and centre-back David Wheater is suspended after his sending off against Everton.
Wheater's dismissal midway through the first half left the Trotters with a mountain to climb and they could not keep Everton at bay as they went down 2-0.
The loss meant that Bolton had suffered ten defeats in their opening 13 games of the season, the most by any team in the Premier League.
Owen Coyle's men currently have nine points to their name and occupy a spot in the relegation zone.

Tottenham's Rafael van der Vaart has been passed fit to return to the side after he missed the win over West Brom with a hamstring injury.
Spurs remain without Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone and Niko Kranjcar.
The Bolton duo of Dedryck Boyata and striker David Ngog return to the squad after injury.
Nigel Reo-Coker may miss out with a hamstring problem and David Wheater is suspended following his red card against Everton last week.
Defeat to PAOK Salonika on Wednesday came as something of a shock to a Tottenham side that have been in scintillating form of late.
Although they rested a host of top players, and manager Harry Redknapp made it clear the competition was never a priority, they still would have expected to make serene progress from the group stage.
Redknapp will be keen for his side to get that result out of their system and concentrate on the league. They are blessed with a relatively easy fixture list between now and the turn of the year and have a real opportunity to cement a place in the top four.
A run of eight wins and a draw in nine league games has been achieved in some style as they have scored at least two goals in each of those games. The PAOK defeat was only their third defeat in 31 games in all competitions at White Hart Lane so the task facing Bolton is huge.
The last time the Trotters won at the Lane was way back in 2004 when they went on to finish sixth under Sam Allardyce and qualified for Europe. Owen Coyle's aspirations this season are vastly different following a shocking run of form that has seen them lose 15 of their last 18 league matches.
They just don't seem the same side this season and are feeling the absence of injured duo Stuart Holden and Lee Chung-Yong and the departed Johan Elmander more keenly than they would have expected.
Owen Coyle is under pressure and his task getting his side to deal with Tottenham's rampant attackers won't be helped by the absence of the suspended David Wheater. A lot of responsibility, then, will be heaped on Gary Cahill, who was of course a summer transfer target for Tottenham.

- None of the last 15 matches between the teams in all competitions has ended as an away win.
- Kevin Davies has scored six goals in his last six games against Tottenham in all competitions.

- Tottenham are aiming to equal their best-ever run in the Premier League of 11 games in a row unbeaten, which they achieved from October to December 1995.

- Bolton have gone 23 league games without a draw, the most in the top-flight since QPR's run of 25 games in 1985. The all-time league record is 51 set by Aston Villa from January 1891 to December 1892.
- The Trotters have now lost 10 of their 13 matches this season. They are only the fifth club to lose this many at this stage of a Premier League season and all four previous clubs went on to be relegated.
