14:24 RED CARD - Chelsea's Fernando Torres - Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea
He has been wonderful since half-time, but Fernando Torres is heading for an early bath after picking up a yellow card for jumping into Jan Vertonghen. TV replays showed that to be a very harsh and slightly bemusing decision. And it might just change the direction of this game, with eight minutes left.
14:16 YELLOW CARD - Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea
Fernando Torres is clipped by Michael Dawson as he turns and makes for goal again, and that is another booking from referee Mike Dean.
14:08 GOAL - Tottenham 1-1 Chelsea - John Terry (65 mins)
From the resulting free-kick, Chelsea are level. Juan Mata lifts it into the box and John Terry gets behind the Spurs defence to glance home his header. Replays show Terry was onside - just - and Chelsea definitely deserve their goal.
14:08 YELLOW CARD - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
Chelsea are taking a leaf out of Tottenham's book - with lots of willing runners from midfield trying to burst past the Spurs defence. Ramires has been sitting deep for much of the game but this time he surges foward, and Jan Vertonghen goes into Mike Dean's book for bringing him down.
13:58 DISALLOWED GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
Another rapid Chelsea break ends with the ball in the net but it won't count - the flag is up for offside. Fernando Torres plays the ball into Juan Mata's path on the edge of the area but the Spaniard is offside when he controls it and fires home.
Chelsea are outraged, maybe because they think the decision was for a foul by Torres. Branislav Ivanovic goes in Mike Dean's book for dissent and the referee calls Blues captain John Terry over to try to calm things down.
13:54 YELLOW CARD - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
A little bit of a tangle between Fernando Torres and Jan Vertonghen, with Torres tripping Vertonghen as they chase a ball near the corner flag. That was unnecessary. Vertonghen is not happy and neither is referee Mike Dean - he shows Torres a yellow card.
Juan Mata is on for Jon Obi Mikel and should offer Chelsea a little bit more creativity.
HALF-TIME - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
Jose Mourinho was off early towards the tunnel before the end of that half and he can have no complaints about Spurs having the lead - it could have been worse had Paulinho put away that great chance just before the interval.
13:32 YELLOW CARD - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
Another booking for Mike Dean to dish out, this time to Christian Eriksen - who tugs back Oscar. Tottenham clear the initial free-kick but, when the ball is delivered back into the danger zone, John Terry is still in the box and powers a header just over the bar.
13:27 YELLOW CARD - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea
It is not a man who makes a tackle who ends up being first into Mike Dean's book - instead it is Andros Townsend who is shown yellow, for an apparent dive under a challenge from Frank Lampard.
13:04 GOAL - Tottenham 1-0 Chelsea - Gylfi Sigurdsson (19 mins)
Tottenham make the breakthrough, with a beautifully crafted goal - no set-pieces involved here. Christian Eriksen escapes Frank Lampard and surges towards the box before playing in Roberto Soldado. His lay-off is a little short for Gylfi Sigurdsson on the edge of the area, but the Icelandic midfielder rides John Terry's challenge before slotting past Petr Cech.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas will welcome back a host of players that were rested against Aston Villa.
In addition, Danny Rose is expected to return from injury, but Younes Kaboul is still hampered by a muscle problem.

Chelsea's Marco van Ginkel will be out for at least six months after he tore his anterior cruciate ligament against Swindon Town on Tuesday.

Fellow midfielder Ramires also picked up an injury in that match and is rated doubtful.

Former Tottenham goalkeeper Erik Thorsvedt repeated it, but it was our own Garth Crooks who actually coined the saying of the season so far. Asked to comment on Spurs' summer transfer dealings an inspired Garth replied: "They've sold Elvis and bought The Beatles."

So far, so true: Roberto Soldado, Paulinho, Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela have looked a pretty fab four as Spurs have won eight of nine games and conceded just one goal, though that solitary goal did lead to defeat in the game they would most have wanted to win - the derby at Arsenal.

Now they face another test - and for Spurs it's arguably a stiffer one - Chelsea.

Stiffer because it would be hard to overstate just how useless Spurs have been against Chelsea over the last couple of decades. Since 1990 the clubs have met 55 times in league and cup, with Tottenham winning only five games to Chelsea's 31. Spurs have won a meagre three Premier League encounters in 42 attempts.

It's a record so poor that you'd forgive Tottenham for just sending the points weaving through the London traffic on the back of a courier's bike to Stamford Bridge, saving themselves the bother of lacing their boots.

But football doesn't work like that. After all, this is Jose Mourinho's new Chelsea. Not the powerhouse steamroller of a side that has flattened Tottenham's proud cockerel to a pulp of messy feathers so often.

This is a Chelsea side which seems shocked at its own shortcomings; a side that had hoped the returning Mourinho would, like some modern-day King Arthur, slide the sword from the stone to unleash a torrent of attacking, blissful, goal-filled football. It hasn't happened.

So the sorcerer and his apprentice meet for the first time on equal terms. At Porto, Chelsea and at Inter, Andre Villas-Boas was to Mourinho what Mourinho had once been to Bobby Robson - a favoured pupil, a protégé; later, successfully for Porto but not for Chelsea, Villas-Boas was cast as his replacement.

How Villas-Boas would treasure a victory over the man with whom, by his own admission, he no longer has a relationship. To bring it back to where we began, how Villas-Boas would love to prove that he is no McCartney to Mourinho's Lennon - not mere excellence compared to genius.

Head-to-head
  • Chelsea's 4-2 victory over Tottenham last season was their first win in seven Premier League visits to White Hart Lane since a 2-0 win in August 2005.
  • But Spurs' recent record against the Blues has improved - after failing to win any of their first 28 Premier League clashes with Chelsea, they have only lost five of the last 14 (W3, L5, D6).
  • They have scored just 11 Premier League goals between them from 10 games this season.
  • Andre Villas-Boas was assistant manager to Jose Mourinho between 2002 and 2009 at Porto, Chelsea and Inter Milan.
Tottenham
  • Tottenham have the best defensive record in any of Europe's top five leagues this season having conceded only one goal so far.
  • This is only the second time since the 1960s that Tottenham have won four out of their opening five league matches. The only other instance came in the 2009-10 season in which they finished fourth and qualified for the Champions League.
  • Tottenham have averaged the most shots per game (21) and have allowed the fewest shots of any team (seven) in the league this season.
Chelsea
  • Ten points is Chelsea's lowest-ever tally after five games since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003, along with the 2007-08 season, also under Jose Mourinho, and 2011-12 when Andre Villas-Boas was in charge.
  • If this game is drawn then Chelsea will have exactly mirrored that start in 2007-08 that saw Mourinho sacked after six matches.
  • Their tally of six goals from their opening five matches is their joint-lowest at this stage for 18 years.
  • None of Chelsea's strikers have scored a Premier League goal yet this season. In fact, of Chelsea's previous 25 league goals, only one has been scored by a recognised striker (Fernando Torres v Everton in May).

Hopefully Rose is back although I like the look of Fryers as a backup. He had a good pre season so should be ready to start getting more minutes.

I don't.

He's miles away from first team duties.

Villa in the cup confirmed that for me.

I wish I had your confidence. I am very nervous.

Can you explain your confidence?

Just a gut feeling.

I'm normally quite reserved when predicting these big games.

Like most on here i'd take a draw now if it was offered, however I do feel now is the perfect time to play Chelsea.

Spurs are on form, our squad has been nicely rotated and players are playing for their positions.

The confidence our back will have going into this game will be massive. It's important we start well.

Just have the feeling we'll see some top top performances from the likes of Dembele, Paulinho and Eriksen.

If Jose sends them out to play the way they have this season away from home, I fancy 2/0 to us.
If he has got the bollocks to do it, he should play Torres up front, and Eto as a fullback pushing the flanks and linking the middle, seen Eto do this in certain games in Russia and he ruled the show, feel nervous at Rose and Walker getting run at.

This is definetely the perfect time to play Chelsea. They don't quite look like a unit yet.

Having said that however, if Townsend starts ahead of Lamela, I'll be pissed. Will give him a great chance to silence the doubters(of which there are very few) and will be a great game for him to excel in imo. Lots of space i think.

A lot people excluding Dembele from their teams should note that he was superb against United at the Lane last season. Really think we'll see a massive performance from him on Saturday. He and Bale didn't play in the corresponding fixture last season, but if I was writing a preview for this game I'd be citing Dembele as the player to watch.

Capable of bossing the midfield in a game of this magnitude, and I think we might just edge this.

I'm going for a 2-1 scoreline in our favour and I'm backing Soldado to find his first goal in open play in the League.
