Can we have a temporary moratorium on 'what ifs' and 'if onlys' and 'dropped points' please? It's depressing - at a time when as Spurs fans we should all be exhilarated!

Plus we tend as fans to only focus on the points dropped, but what about the points we picked up at Watford, Man City, Crystal Palace when maybe we could have drawn all three. The goal line clearance v Watford, the cross bar v Palace and the chances City missed could have turned those games into losses too.

We are second on merit and it is only Leicester being above us that is influencing the overall discussion. In other years draws v Arsenal and at Liverpool would have been seen as good results, but for some reason the narrative now is they cost us the title.

All teams can use 'what ifs' and 'if onlys' but only provides a false sense of gratification.

Some thoughts as to why the Man United win was important on a number of levels:

1) We kept ourselves in the title race
2) We extended our lead over Arsenal and with GD a factor we are essentially 4 points clear.
3) We need to stay second and let Arsenal and Man City battle to avoid 4th which means a summer start to CL qualification. This will be an issue for any top team post Euro 16.
4) Finishing in the top three means automatic CL group qualification which eliminated the possibility of the Europa Cup until the latter stages. A couple of our biggest rivals for top four next year will now be in the Europa.
5) We beat Man United for the first time in many years, so we have now eliminated that mental block.
6) We hurt Man United's CL hopes and keeping them out means they are less attractive as a club for transfer targets and our own players and staff.
7) The reaction of our players when KW had his scuffle at the end with Depay spoke volumes and indicated a team that is together. This augurs well for next year.

Hey my neighbour's young son has been a man u supporter all his short life. Guess what? I saw him this morning as I took the dog for a walk and he said he's changing to Spurs!!! He said he'd never seen a team do that to them live before and he was so impressed he didn't want to support "those losers" any more. Dad's sent off for a Spurs away shirt already (wise dad cos they're on discount) and he wants Lamela on the back. Wonder how many times this is happening across the world?

Football really is a funny old game. Apart from a brief period in the first half, I thought we were second best for 60 mins. We didn't look sharp, our passing was off and Utd were first to every second ball.

Alli was poor and then he pops up with the goal ( as he's done so often) and then they couldn't live with us for the rest of the game.

Rose was excellent, but special mention for Lamela who apart from missing from 6 yards was superb all game.

I get where you're coming from, but don't agree really. I think that's quite a pessimistic slant but some of it rings true.

I agree that United actually pressed us well in the first half and for the first 20 minutes we barely strung a pass together, but we still had that five to ten minute spell were we looked dangerous and created a couple of very good chances. United created fuck all in that first half, not a thing.

So whilst one could claim that United stifled us well off the ball they did nothing with it, and we still were the more dangerous looking team in spite of this.

The second half was quite scrappy but then we started to get on top and it wasn't long before we opened the scoring. The, only thing you could say is that Martial had that big opening, had he scored etc. But then Lamela should of scored in the first half with the header. That's all they created and you have LVG playing that off as some sort of success story, embarrassing.

We didn't pass the ball that well yesterday, but to me it always felt we could squeeze the accelerator at any given moment and United would be in all sorts of trouble.

They stifled us and as a result it took us time to get into the game, but once we had that mini spell in the first half it was no surprise we opened them like a can of beans in the second multiple times.

I think in the next couple of years that he will be one of the best players in the league, especially if he can find a manager that knows how to get the best out of him.
He'll then be bought by barca as United will be miles from any title challenge

It cannot be stressed enough that we must keep hold of our manager. Fergie has realised who his successor should be and he hates that we have him. For some reason, he can't stand us, maybe because he didn't expect us to not know our place.

If luck really balances out then Leicester will fold next season and the drugs they've been taking will turn out to be a drug that causes extra limbs to sprout and they'll all turn into three legged, four armed or five eared freaks...

Enough luck to last five lifetimes.
Or if they drop points this weekend.

Maybe I was a bit harsh, but I never suggested we didn't deserve to win.

Sometimes the game can take on a different perspective when you are there and I still maintain that in the first half Utd were sharper and winning all the second balls. Maybe the delay and the Leicester result combined to leave us a bit flat and all the reports I've read and the opinions of those around me acknowledged we were not ourselves. A team more competent in the final third could have taken advantage in the first half.

You are right though that Utd actually created sod all and after an hour I thought neither team looked like scoring and it was destined to fizzle out into an 0-0 draw.

The good thing is even on an off day we still looked dangerous and once the first goal went in we showed no mercy and ran all over them.

Time to put him in a retirement home, I'm afraid. He's lost the plot.

The Lamela thing is no surprise, there are posters on here who still can't bring themselves to give him any credit...but how for the love of God can he not like Poch?
Slap him hard across the face.

For those that care I survived the little punch-up in Tenerife with little more than a cut ear. It was quite funny in the end people forgot who they were fighting and I got my cut trying to separate two Utd fans kicking shit our of a Leicester fans. It ended when some goliath of a Spurs fan waded in and the rest called it a day
