I thought we played very well and AVB got things right today. We started with Dembele and Solado upfront and pressed and attacked with real intensity. When united got into the game, we needed to get control of the ball so AVB moved dembele into the middle and paulinho upfront to counter attack. Nacer Chadli added a good physical presence up front for the long cross ball as an option and provided a decent threat as well - he looks a good player. Azza was brilliant but he wasn't challenging Evra as much as he had done towards the 65 minute mark which is why AVB freshened things up with Townsend who I thought played well as well.

Sandro was brilliant, positionally, his tackling and a fabulous goal as well. Soldado was very very good in his link up play - some touches were world class. You know Defoe cannot do stuff like that. He just has to get a little more confidence back in finishing things off. Don't blame him - until this game he has barely touched the ball.

At the back, Walker was his usual self - brilliant athletically, hard running and tackling but can sometimes lose his head a little - good goal though. Daws was solid but his lack of pace was exposed somewhat. For me chiriches is a real real star. Wonderful technique and positioning - what brilliant tackling and anticipation. One tackle on Rooney was absolute world class. Verts was good - struggled against Valencia a little and still doesn't seem too happy.

Lloris was not tested. Welbeck just conned the ref.

We were good - they were lucky for both goals and apart from Rooney, we made them look very very average.

For me the biggest change was the pace at which the ball moved. People were taking one touch and looking to pass forward. Not ball retention for the sake of it.

Oh and michael owen must be the worst commentator in the world. Truely aweful.

What is the general consensus on the penalty call?

Nailed on?
Disgraceful decision?
I've seen them given?

Likewise, was there anything in the two penalty shouts from the Park Lane in the first half, when Soldado might have been bundled over while going for a cross from the right, quickly followed by a handball claim as the ball was crossed back in from the left?

It's nonsense isn't it? Same goes for the notion that the more non-booking fouls you've accumulated the more susceptible you become to picking up a yellow. It's either a yellow card offence or not, there is no wider context to be taken into consideration.

Not true.

Persistent fouling is a yellow-card offence. It's in the laws of the game.

I can see why the ref gave the decision, there was contact, but Welbeck pointed the toe and took the chance to go down. Less contact than there was on Lennon by Evra in the 1st half but he got his cross off so nothing was said.

We should have won that game today, no doubt. We were the better team and conceded two really bad goals.
To be honest I feel abit deflated because we had that game after Sandro's wonder goal.
Confident we can beat Fulham and Sunderland, COYS...

Thought we looked much more positive in attack today and moved the ball around a lot quicker. Although the result wasn't ideal (partly down to the ref, who I thought was awful, and partly down to the traditional shooting ourselves in the foot) I thought the performance was much better and far less negative than the backwards and sideways passing we've had to put up with most of the season.

Two things
1) Welbeck won the penalty - something we have seen players booked for when the ref isnt mike "specsavers" dean

2) Jamie Carragher as a pundit is much much worse - makes me want to polyfilla my ears

Well, it was a draw, but who cares.

That was a lot lot better today (not perfect or brilliant by a long shot) and hopefully it will continue and continue to improve.

Good day today.

I was pleased to see a very good response from the players to last weeks horror show, it was a good entertaining game to watch, and I felt we did enough to just nick it, but it wasn't to be.
Onwards and upwards from here I hope.

Didn't get t see the match, can someone please give me a quick appraisal of how we played?

Played well. Fast powerful start, scored from a soft freekick. Played some of the best football of the season after the goal with Lennon causing a lot of problems and Paulinho playing well. They scored a freak goal from some shocking defending and the game was fairly even after that with United growing stronger and stronger towards the break. 2nd half Sandro scored a fucking screamer out of nowhere and they almost instantly got a soft pen that Sturridge 'won' off of Lloris. They were on top for a bit but we regained control and looked really good towards the end of the match. Sandro and Dembele were beasts in the middle all game. Walker brilliant apart from the massive fuck up for their 1st goal. Chiriches was excellent, Daws ok. Verts was very exposed to Valencias pace and almost all their threat came down that side. We need Rose back. Chadli was good in the first half linking up play but absent 2nd half and I don't think he deserved a starting spot over any of out other wide forwards. Paulinho played at 10 all game and was excellent first half playing some very nice footy, out of the game 2nd half though. Lennon was brilliant and really tried to get in behind united, we couldn't get him in to the game 2nd half though either. Soldado actually got played in on goal once but blasted it over and didn't contribute much beyond a few nice touches. Defoe looked sharp when he came on but didn't have many opportunities

Much better today, but I do wonder with avb and his substitutions. wtf was the Lennon sub for, Chadli offered nothing going forward yet he takes our best attacking player off. It seems it's two steps forward and one back with avb, he doesn't seem to be learning from his past mistakes.

I like the way after the ball hits the back of net after Sandro scores, Soldado puts his hands on his head lol

Thought he got the subs just about right.
