Bentaleb has played a lot of games for us. He doesn't learn quickly IMO and continues to play square passes without looking (as he did last night). I also don't see him as a brave player in the Dier, Dawson, Parker mould. He isn't a naturally defensive minded player, and I'm not knocking him for that, but he doesn't recognise danger and act accordingly like Dier does. The one player we have aho does have the skillset is Veljkovic but I don't know where that's going. Dier will never learn to become Hoddle and Bentaleb will never learn to become Dier IMO.

Not having that at all, the progress that he's made is astounding and to progress that quickly you need to learn quick which he has.

He hasn't learnt not to play square passes without looking despite having done it on several occasions.

Not this square pass thing again....The only reason they're at the forefront of your mind is because they directly led to goals, he's played how many games for us and he plays a couple of bad square passes where the oppo took advantage and he gets chastised for it, it's crazy!

I think he's learning, even last night there were opportunities to play plenty of square passes but he didn't do it, I'd be surprised that he hasn't been pulled up on it by the management.

I can't stress enough that he's a young player and young players are going to be inconsistent but we've already seen signs of him learning, why can't you see that he will learn from this?

And he hasn't learnt not to do it. He was lucky to get away with it again last night. I used it in my argument that he doesn't learn quickly whereas you said 'to progress that quickly you need to learn quick, which he has'.

But there were plenty of times where he could have played square passes last night where he chose not to, what do you call this if it isn't learning?

My last word on the subject-

There were, as you say, plenty of opportunities last night for him to play square passes and he chose not to. I never disputed that. There was one clear occasion when he played a square pass without looking which he was lucky to get away with. He's done the same thing on several occasions in the past which, as you say, has led to goals. That, in my book, constitutes 'not learning quickly'.

Okay we will see how he progresses over the season then :)

I love how you can dismiss Bentaleb's ability to learn because he played a square pass last night after having been sidelined for several months. Bonkers.

Yep, that's absolutely all that I based my assessment on. Did you read the earlier part of the thread at all?

Perhaps we could all agree that he is an outstanding talent with a few weaknesses.
Just Poch's cup of tea.

The point is he was doing it since last season and he was not even injured yet

I spotted that as well. I worry it's not a technical problem with him but a mental one and he just loses focus in games. He's just done it too many times for me and he's an unnerving presence on the pitch.

If anything I'd say the blind passing is a show of confidence not switching off or being casual. I'm happy for him to play those balls, what he needs is a better picture of what's around him when he's going to do it n

Just wanted to add its only being at the game that I noticed how vocal and how much of a leader Toby is.

He marshaled the other three defenders really well calling them into position and making sure they kept on their toes. I haven't seen that level of defending since Sir Ledley retired.

It was so much more than just that.
He left out of principle and with dignity which is a lot more than could be said of the scbc board and chairman

For what it's worth it think he is a stayer
He has a plan he is implenting it well and unless Danny or Joe start messing he will see it through.

Hope so anyway.

As fans we hope things develop to the benefit of the club and our opinions are influenced by that. Sometimes we say "I feel Poch thinks xyz" because we want him to think like we do. In reality unless someone is a psychic, an expert at reading body language, or has a microphone with a google translator in Poch's house, no one has a clue how open or honest he is with some of his comments. He has never given fans any reason to doubt him, but who knows what lies ahead. Any manager that is totally honest with the press is a fool.
