I reckon he’ll always look a bit off the pace. That’s his style. He’ll never look the Uber-athlete.
We have Sissoko until he is up to speed fitness wise.
Hes looked very good in all the pre season games, I don't think a loan would suit him, a regular on the bench, learning from Jan and Toby, could be 2 inches taller, got a touch of Paul Parker about him..Certainly looks like it. Want him to go on a loan where he's played every week.
The reason Alli looked good isn't just form - it's cos we weren't playing 2 up top like we did for most of last season.
This meant Alli's position was much higher and he had licence to get behind and make runs - which is exactly how he got 28 league goals in 2 seasons. His time playing deeper does seem to have helped him though - as a youngster he used to drift out of games but today he knew when to slip back and provide support.
I hope Poch sticks with this system. It gets the best out of Kane and Alli, Son and/or Lucas provide width and pace out wide, and we look much more cohesive defensively.
not being a dick, but this was pretty clear all last season. alli isn't a cm, even if he likes to think he is. he dawdles on the ball, gets pushed off it easily and can't control a game. however, he's our best player, and probably the best in the country, at exploiting space and making runs into the box. out of all our players, his position should be the least defined imo, closest to a free, roaming role. he can also be pretty creative, too.
To be fair, even though we've only made one signing, several of the youngsters looking competent is a big plus and definitely improves the squad. The same couldn't really be said last summer.
I see no way Oliver Skipp is worse than Dier and Wanyama. The guy can tackle almost as well as both whilst having much greater mobility and better ability to show for the ball. His passing needs a bit of work but that's not exactly one of Dier's strong points either.
I see no way Troy Parrott is worse than Llorente. His physique and skills are much more suited to a Pochettino press.
I see no way Walker-Peters is worse than Trippier. I'm not saying he's Cafu, but as I said, no worse than Trippier on several viewings now.
Tanganga also looks superb and could ease any potential CB worries next summer.
It's time to put faith in these 4 now, they are already at a decent level and I can only see them all improving. For me, the only player now required in the next few days is Lo Celso, as long as Eriksen is still with us.
So looks like 4-2-3-1 is the way to go? Dybala for Lamela
Correct but I think Walker-Peters aside a lot of these players will only play limited minutes. There are plenty of senior pros in front of them, especially if Rose stays.Ability wise these players may be on par or better but there's always question marks over young players regarding their mentality, can they step in when required?, will their heads drop when things don't go their way? Need to be careful with young players which is why we still need the seniors IMO
I really like the look of Parrott - could save us millions in the transfer market. And he’s ready to contribute to the first XI now, replacing Llorente as 4th forward behind Kane, Son and Moura.
Don't think you're being a dick at all. The reason I said it is cos last season Poch wouldn't stop playing Kane + Lucas/Son up front with Alli deeper. I just hope he finally accepts that experiment is never going to work and 4-2-3-1 suits us best.not being a dick, but this was pretty clear all last season. alli isn't a cm, even if he likes to think he is. he dawdles on the ball, gets pushed off it easily and can't control a game. however, he's our best player, and probably the best in the country, at exploiting space and making runs into the box. out of all our players, his position should be the least defined imo, closest to a free, roaming role. he can also be pretty creative, too.
I agree. Unfortunately people make up their minds about a player they dont fancy, even before a ball is kicked, and rate them down, even though their individual performance would dictate otherwise.I actually thought Nkoudou wasn't bad.
