Sebastien Bassong and Younes Kaboul are Tottenham's only fit central defenders for Thursday's Europa League clash against Rubin Kazan.
Ledley King (groin), Michael Dawson (Achilles), Vedran Corluka (foot) and William Gallas (calf) are all out injured for Spurs.
Danny Rose, Andros Townsend and Tom Carroll are likely to be brought in.
Sandro (knee) and Aaron Lennon (groin), who both missed Sunday's draw against Newcastle, could play.
"Central defence is a big problem for us," Spurs manager Harry Redknapp said.
"We are really down to two central defenders.
"The problem is that we have no one who will be back fit at the weekend so if one of them gets a knock on Thursday, we will be bang in trouble for Sunday's game against Blackburn."

Should be a great open and attacking game. Shame I am playing a gig in Camden tonight so will miss it!

Not at all confident about this.

I really don't know how this game will pan out - Kazan could really come at us which could surprise some of our younger players and lead to dire football, particularly if Pav starts in a lone striker role.

That being said, Russians don't tend to travel well and if we get an early goal to settle the young side down then it might give a bit more freedom to the likes of Gio, Falque (if poss), Carroll and Livermore to express themselves.

Above all else, I don't want any injuries to senior players with the preservation of Bassong and Kaboul an absolute must!

I reckon Sandro will play if able as he needs the match fitness. If he has a good game then I'm confident. If should also bring the best out of young mr Carroll.

I would quite like to see Townsend get a go, I think he deserves it, but by the sounds of things Lennon if fit will get the game time ahead of the weekend.

Either way, we sound like we're going to field a strong team so I'm confident. If Pav shows up, unlikely though that might be, I think we'll win.

If the match proves to be as popular as the Shamrock Rovers game, I'm sure the Lane will be pretty vacant.

But if we continue our journey, we may get some more holidays in the sun out of it

I was going to post something about how tonight Pav might be able to show people he's more than just a waste of space with a hard shot that occasionally goes in...

..but never mind the bollocks.

I shall be there with hopefully a few empty seats around me so I can have a kip if the match is as dire as the Hearts home leg.

Cudicini
Walker, Livermore, Bassong, Rose
Lennon, Sandro, Carroll, Townsend
Gio
Pav

Sub : Gomes, Nicholson, Parrett, Pienaar or Fredericks, Falque, Defoe, Kane

Team picked to avoid possible injuries to key players (except possibly Walker) before Sunday as none of Gallas, King, Dawson or Corluka will be available - hence not risking Kaboul. Nicholson is on the bench to cover for the CB's and RB - the only other possible young defenders played yesterday in the NextGen match.

Start with Gio to see if he can replicate his form of the last match - if he does not Falque available to substitute him at half time.

If Pienaar is fit, it maybe he starts in place of Lennon, with Lennon coming on in the second half. Townsend starts as based on previous matches he will upset Rubin through sheer pace.

Parrett available to stiffen centre midfield if required, with Kane and Defoe available to add striking power if needed.

Actually there are few other options for the squad if we want to protect Modric, Parker, Kaboul and Benny with the injuries Spurs have.

I think Spurs want to beat Rubin and get through the group stages, but on reflection, even a draw could help us to get through the group stages.

I don't really follow the russian league, but with my father being finnish, I follow the finnish national team. Roman Eremenko in Kazan also plays for the finnish national team and is a good player, sort of Modric-esque in his way of playing. Really makes the finnish team tick. I think he could be one to watch out for tonight, a bit of a midfield wizard.
