Tottenham will be without midfielder Scott Parker, who was forced off against Swansea on New Year's Eve with a knee injury.

Spurs remain without Tom Huddlestone, Ledley King and Aaron Lennon.

West Brom's skipper Chris Brunt limped off during the defeat to Everton and is likely to miss out, while Shane Long (back) is doubtful.

Defender Jonas Olsson will also miss out with a calf strain so Craig Dawson is expected to play in central defence.

In October 2008, I travelled to Italy to do the commentary on Udinese v Tottenham in the UEFA Cup. The Italian team won 2-0 against a Tottenham side who, quite frankly, were a shambles. After the match Juande Ramos re-iterated his belief that he could turn Spurs around after an appalling start to the season but he was never given the chance and his services were soon dispensed with.

As we enter 2012, it's worth going back to those reasonably recent dark days for Tottenham fans; just over three years ago, the club were bottom of the Premier League, with just two points from their opening eight matches when Harry Redknapp was appointed as successor to Ramos.

Now look at them. Tottenham start the New Year third in the Premier League, having taken 39 points from their last 16 matches, and Sir Alex Ferguson says Spurs are playing the best football of any team at the moment (although bear in mind hell would have to freeze over before he'd say that about Manchester City!).

Harry Redknapp is wanted by many as the next England manager. Among the other names mentioned in connection with the post is the West Brom boss Roy Hodgson. The two men have so much experience, knowledge and wisdom and it would be fascinating to be able to get them together and just listen to them chat about football.

West Brom have the chance to get revenge for the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham's hands last month, when the visitors scored two late goals to claim the points. The Baggies have a better record away from home in terms of league wins this season, with four victories on their travels so far.

The fact they have less time to prepare for this match after playing on New Year's Day against Everton may be a factor; but they'll be confident of at least getting a point, just as they did last season, when Simon Cox scored a terrific goal to earn a 2-2 draw. It remains Cox's only Premier League goal so far; I wonder what odds you'd get on him scoring again on Tuesday night?

Head-to-head

  • Both games were drawn last season - 1-1 at the Hawthorns and 2-2 at White Hart Lane. Simon Cox scored a late wonder goal to earn West Brom a point at Tottenham, and it remains his only Premier League strike.
  • West Brom's last win at White Hart Lane was a 3-2 victory in November 1984.
  • This is the 134rd meeting between the sides. West Brom have won 52 times, Tottenham 52 and there have been 29 draws.
Tottenham

  • They have only conceded three goals at White Hart Lane in their last seven matches since a 5-1 hammering at the hands of Manchester City.
  • Tottenham Hotspur have scored in 17 successive Premier League matches which equals their best streak in the Premier League era (Sep 2007-Jan 2008).
  • Spurs have not lost a single match in the last two Premier League seasons in which they have held a half-time lead.
  • Spurs finish the year as the highest placed London side in the Premier League for the first time since 1995 when they were fourth behind Newcastle, Manchester United and Liverpool.
West Brom

  • The Baggies have already won four matches away from home this season, which is as many as they managed in the whole of last season. In five previous seasons in the Premier League, they won a total of just 10 away games.
  • They have won 14 points away from home - more than they have managed at home.

Massive opportunity tomorrow night for us, really massive. Hope there is a real tempo to our play, that's when we are at our best at home...out of the traps quickly etc, hoping for a fast start and not a nervy affair ala Sunderland.

I'm going for 3-0.

If we can score early i think it will be pretty easy 3 or 4-1. If not it will be a close 2-1 game.

I'll be expecting a lot more from the likes of Bale, Adebayor and VDV, they were all poor against Swansea.

I think we'll win though. It's time to really take control of the position we have put ourselves in. Wins tomorrow and against Everton will put us 8 points clear of Chelsea, 9 of Arsenal, and with the same amount of games played. Then we can start thinking of what might be.

I expect three points tomorrow, and hopefully we get better performances from our forward trio compared to the Swansea game. Wouldnt mind 2/3 changes to freshen things up a little.

We expected a shed load against a very poor looking Sunderland side and look how relieved we were to eventually win that 1-0 courtesy of Pav!

Let's keep it in perspective and not lose sight at what is right in front of us. A fast paced start akin to Chelsea is definatly the order of the day and let's try to build a cushion to HT to which we can look to rotate/rest players second half if needs be.

Massive game. I hope they don't park the bus, if they do then 1-0 or 2-1

True but it looks like West Brom will be missing the whole spine of their team tomorrow in Long, Mulumbu and Olsson, plus Brunt. Whilst I'm not going to go OTT and predict/expect a 5-0 win I do think anything but three points would be very disappointing.

Just thinking about it, the fact that in the last two seasons the only team that we have really 'put to the sword' was Liverpool, and they had 9 men for 30 minutes, worries me slightly. We don't seem to be able to have that aggression about us that United and City do to be able to tear teams apart, and instead of winning 4/5-0, we end up grinding out 1 or 2 goal wins. Even against Bolton it was a chance to greatly increase our goal-difference, and we only won by 3.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think about this? Either way, a win is a win. I'd happily take 1-0 wins thanks to own goals against Brom and Everton right now, as the 6 points are what matters.

I think, given the team Redknapp will play, it'll be a tired, laboured, unconvincing 1-0.

Yeh it can be annoying at times, often I think a team is there for the taking (even that Liverpool game I thought we could/should have got more, with a bit more purpose second half we could even have matched the eight Utd put past the Scum) but we switch off at 2-0 and seem content to just retain possession. I guess it can be argued that it saves energy in the long run, I'd much rather we went all out for 90 mins and absolutely humiliated teams though!

I think about it too. QPR is one that sticks in the mind this season. We really should've been out of sight, we let them back into the game and all of a sudden it's 2-1 and we're under pressure.

Yeah for sure, I think we lack that ruthless edge at times.

I just put a bet on at 888, Sandro to score first and we win 4-0. It's a long shot but I feel he's due a goal and my $2 will make me $600, come on Sandro!
