Think that's a good line up, and I'm always a lot more confident when Rafa is in the side.

Great line-up. Good to see Verts and VDV starting. Also pleased to see Defoe keep his place as it would have taken the piss a little if he'd stuck Ade straight in.

Glad to see Livermore continuing to be given opportunities too. I had my doubts about him when he broke into the team last season, but he's proving to be a decent player.

Yeah. Also it's nice that he genuinely seems to rate Defoe - the tone and the detailed content of the praise dished out when Defoe's departure is raised - generating some confidence that a repeat of last seasons goal tallies for the pair could, worst case, be on the cards.

Their exhaustively tested EPL standard willll probably be no worse than Podolski and Giroud's debut seasons, which is what matters.

Really would be quite nice if Yacob plays his normal game and not how he played against Liverpool. He was captain of 'my' team here for a while, and a Gary Doherty calibre defender* if there ever was one.

*used as a VERY deep lying mid usually

yeah more the point we playing 1 up i guess, do we need 2 dcm's, sandro and livermore, guess we will soon find out :)

Was hoping for just Sandro myself, as I feel Sigurdsson gives us the option of a goalscoring midfielder that can be part of a midfield 2 at home, particularly with VDV in there to put in a shift as well.

Where is Odemwingie for them, not on the bench either - he injured?

Pretty confident looking at their line up...

Looks a bit like AVB is still checking out his squad and keeping players on their toes, before transfers go through. Agree that Siggy looked a bit confused last week about his role and position on the pitch - he kept looking round to check where he was in relation to Sandro and Livermore. Anyway, VDV is not fit or fast enough for this system and Siggy will come off I reckon.

Looking at that bench we better be busy in the transfer market this week.
Ade> Defoe, Siggy>JL (no need for 2 holding at home), Townsend = Lenny. Could be much worse; it's the starting 11 that has me more concerned - no midfield general to be the 'glue'. That's why I say Siggy for JL and drop Rafa back to pull the strings (he did this last week). JL was shockingly bad last week - hope he just had an off day. Not a world beater by any stretch, but he is better than that.

Starting with 4 obvious weak-links (Friedel, BAE, Livermore & Defoe); important week ahead to get that number down if we're going to challenge for 4th spot.
(a misson impossible for this season without Modric maybe, but it looks like AVB & Levy are looking more longterm and don't go for quick-fixes - but to get a squad for years ahed).
