Mourinho historically likes a big keeper who dominates the area which is pretty much the opposite of Hugo. Wouldn't be at all surprised if he wanted to join up with Poch again at PSG. Good luck to him if he does.

Pope and Henderson is two good options for when Lloris leaves.

Good to see this link, can’t see 30m being needed either. 20 plus Winks.

Thanks for the service, Hugo.

Well some sites reckon us and dortmund want to sign henderson from utd. He's just signed a 5 year deal recently. Utd would be best to get rid of de gea and have henderson as your number one for the next 10 years.

One of those sites is the Daily Mail, literally linking us with 2 keepers on the same day.

Apparently Henderson is on 120k per week at Utd. That could be a massive stumbling block if we wanted him.

Well Hugo is on more than that at the moment, he'd probably want just a bit more than what he gets now so I don't see it a massive problem, we can afford it.

Yes it is likely Hugo will have a few more years left at the top level, and this is indeed just a bad run, but who knows. The question of him leaving, unless his form doesn’t show signs of improvement, is probably up to him.

Hugo is 34, which is old even for a goalkeeper. I would say 5 years is absolute maximum but most likely 2 or 3, though 34 is the end for many goalkeepers.

Pope is 28, that’s not a 2-4 year stop gap, that’s 6 seasons difference which is a lot. Lloris has been here much longer than anyone really expected, 4 years or more is already a considerable amount of time. Pope fits the bill perfectly and is a good goalkeeper, possibly not the best option, but certainly one of the safest options.
Hugo if he goes is nothing to do with form.

Nick Pope would be a very good choice to replace Hugo but 30m seems a lot, especially if we have a restricted budget.

Cheaper options could be Gulacsi (£10m release fee and HG), Maignan (contracts expires 2022), Onana (contrsct expires 2022 but currently banned for a year), Johnstone (WBA relegated), Raya Martin (if Brentford don't get promoted) and Areola (Part Ex with Lloris).

We probably need 2 keepers as well, I do not want Hart as 2nd choice next season but he is a perfect back up to the back up. Freddie Woodman at Swansea looks a good keeper, currently on loan from Newcastle.
I was very impressed with Jonstone the other day. He gets my vote and should be available.

We need to increase our home grown quota despite the fact Dele should go in order to raise cash.

Out....Aurier nd Hancock
In....Celik and Aarons

Out Davies
In..Sessegmon

Out..Lloris
In...Henderson or Pope

Out ..Winks and Sissoko
In...Skipp and Sabitzer

Out ..Vinicius
In...Ivan Toney

Out..Dele and Lamela
In..Leon Bailey

Why would PSG go for Winks? They have a number of players who do that kind of role for them and are better at it than winks. Lazy link.

Honestly had no idea Pope was 28, I would've sworn he was ~24. TiL. I'm still blown away that Joe Hart is only 33! The fuck, man, I thought he was nearly 40!

Hugo isn't past it for a top level club, not by any means - while our defenders are having their little gormless moments even the best keepers will struggle. Imagine him trying to marshall a back line that isn't doing what it's expected to do, trying to compensate for that must be massively distracting and I can't help but feel if we had a Dawson or a Woodgate in there, bellowing orders and keeping things tight, Hugo could focus on being a keeper again.

If we move him on he will shine somewhere on the continent, I can practically see it already, but I was in the Gazza camp to develop & replace him, so who knows what's going on anymore.

For all we know, Hart will find his feet again and by this time next year Hugo is struggling to get a game from the bench.

Am I missing something about the PSG rumors or do they still have Keylor Navas playing at a very high level? I wouldn’t mind taking him if we can’t get Pope or Henderson affordably

IF Nagelsmann was to come in, he would be a nightmare. As solid and consistent as Pope is, his distribution is probably the worst in the league. A big reason why Pickford gets selected for England over him.

Some may say both retired end of last season on this seasons performance.I reckon just wants to reunite with Poch their very close, pick up couple trophies and with pandemic just be closer to home.I'd thank him for the memories and wish him well for sure, great servant he's not the sole reason for defensive issues imo.

But he started the season on very good form, a lot of people praising him on here, it's just a poor run of form, it hasn't even been that many games. He's definety had worse patches.

He's 28 and you think he has 10 years left in him? Does that mean that in fact Hugo isn't past it, but still have 5-7 years left and is having a bad run?

Doesn't make sense to me, we should be looking for a longer term younger replacement if Hugo leaves, not a 2-4 year stopgap.

Van der Sar was 34(!) when he joined United and became one of their best and most succesful goalkeepers ever (4 titles, Champions League etc.). Not many can do what he did, but there is absolutely nothing wrong with signing a 28/29 year old goalkeeper (Pope).

Distribution should be something that can be greatly improved on the training pitch. Anybody that has worked hard on improving their 'bad' foot will know that it's mainly a case of hard work and practice to get the technique to become muscle memory. Having said that, I'm often astonished at how many players are so one footed, even at the very highest levels of the game.
