It may just be the way he took the england goal on his right foot, driving through the middle and may be a little early to speculate, but what about Andros doing the bale role? With AVB's coaching, as it evidently worked with big ears last year maybe Andros could play that role. At least as an option if Eriksen/Holtby are unable to pick the locks there. A bit premature perhaps? I think he could do a job there shifting onto either foot.

Really pleased for the lad more than anything. Looked ecstatic. Well done sir!

Probablly MOTM on his debut frir England.

Townsend's superb run helped set up Wayne Rooney's 49th-minute opener (quote from BBC) foir England before his excellent swerving goal.

IMO he needs to have more games on the wing , but I agree that the sky could be the limit for Andros, provided he continues to develop.

He's much better than he was 12 months ago, and in turn his form 12 months ago was much better than his form 24 months ago.

He'll get better and better - its just a question as to howe good he gets.

I am very pleased for the lad but I can't see that he has done nearly enough yet to suggest he should be behind the striker. I think AVB was wanting to move Bale over to right eventually as more of a inside creative forward rather then a number 10. I think Townsend's game is much better suited to the wing, we need a number 10 behind the striker. Someone who is primarily creative such as Eriksen, Holtby etc.

Certainly is an option, although at the moment we do look too narrow, which is a problem when teams congest the middle of the park like West Ham. I would keep him on the wing now as we need quality out wide as well and at the moment I think Holtby and Eriksen should be in behind the striker, but won't have as much impact out wide Townsend does. He has both the ability to cut in or beat his man and get a cross in, as he is comfortable on both feet making him unpredictable. I think he has the ability to play there, but for now we need him on the wing to provide some width.

Once Lamela comes to form, we will have a very fluid attack where the players mentioned can easily interchange and cause the opposition problems.

Townsend--Lamela---Eriksen

The three players all switching positions, is the way forward for me. But I do like the look of the Townsend/Walker partnership.

Let him master the right wing position first. He looks like a young Arjen Robben, reminds me of him a lot. If one of our new signings was playing like he has been we'd be creaming in bulk.

The guys got bags of potential, and I think AVB has been fantastic with him. It would have been so easy to drop him for one of the new guys but he has let him keep his place and Andros has done well. Certainly can work behind the striker, but imagine an on form Eriksen, in that role, rolling the ball to Andros for them bangers!

He was fantastic tonight and I'm happy for the lad, but that one goal tonight doesn't suddenly make him a prolific goal scorer - have you missed the amount of shots he's had this year? :D We need a proper lock picker in the no. 10 role ie Eriksen / Holtby

Yep avb was just playing bale there because we literally had no one for that role and it worked out well. But if he stayed he would be playing as a wide forward as he does for Madrid

Lets learn the lesson from Bale and just try it.

If most of the forum had their say, Bale would never have moved from left back.

You don't know until you know

Wow, getting ahead of yourself much? Let the guy have a few good seasons on the wing before even considering he moves inside. Erisken, Holtby, and Lamela all have a better football brain than him and I don't see him being played anywhere except left or right wing for the considerable future.

I think Townsends passing is underrated he has slipped in quite a few players into the box.

Definitely prefer to play Lamela in the hole if we're looking for someone. There's a stupid misconception his best position is RWF.

Agreed it may be a bit premature but defo worth a go training him for that spot if the playmakers are having no joy there. Its exciting we have a bast array of options and I'd love to see all 3 (whoever they are!) interchanging behind the striker. Incredible depth if they can all get firing....

From what I've seen the difference between Bale and Townsend cutting in and shooting is that Bale is so quick and sharp , minimal backlift and the ball is in the back of the net.

At this point Townsend spends that bit more time winding up for the shot giving the keeper time to set himself and for defenders to get a block in.

He seems to have taken a leaf from Bale the way he cuts in and tries to score and so he just needs to add that quick minimal back lift shot.

Townsend was great vs Montenegro and I'm happy for him, but remember it was Montenegro, whose players mostly play in championship standard leagues.

I will add that I thought Jovetic was great, shame Citeh bought him, I would love him at spurs.
