Townsend is a real bonus for us. The only problem it creates is making it hard to give Lamela the starts he needs. Still AVB has to decide formation, his potential best team and go for it

Really hoping to see Townsend on the left, Eriksen/Holtby in the hole and Lamela on the right. Granted, Townsend has been fantastic on the right, but with his ability to effectively shoot with both feet, him playing on the left and keeping the width would be a Godsend for our side in my opinion. It's sort of an homage to our 4-2-3-1 setup of last season with Siggy, Bale and Lennon in behind our striker. An inverted winger with a traditional winger to keep width.

I think it should definitely be Eriksen/Holtby, Townsend, and Lamela in the '3' of a 4-2-3-1, but I believe it could be quite fluid.

I'd have Townsend switching wings (but mainly staying on the right), Eriksen switching between the left and number 10 role, and Lamela switching between all three positions. From what I've seen and read, I'm interested in seeing how Lamela would get on going back to a more central position. It seems as if that's his preferred place. Eriksen and Lamela would effectively both have free roles, with the other taking up position on the left when needed.

The good thing is that both can play on either side, I have a feeling that Gylfi will ultimately be the one to drop out of AVBs favoured first XI to accommodate Lamela despite his recent goal scoring 'streak'.
I also believe that when both do start, the inverted role will switch between both Lamela and Townsend throughout the match, possibly Eriksen too

honestly I think it should be Townsend that starts on the right and Lamela on the left. AVB has kept townsend on the right and stuck lamela on the left a couple times already

Personal opinion, but Lamela is much, much better playing either on the right or in the middle. If we want to put Lamela in the middle, Eriksen on the left and Townsend on the right then that might be an option so long as Eriksen shows the ability to play out wide. But, with Townsend being more dual-footed than Lamela and also having a more traditional winger skillset (directness, pace, quality crossing with both feet) it seems to make more sense for him to play on the left than Lamela.

Sell Townsend to Real Madrid. 100 mill .

Or sell Townsend to RM for 80 mill and Bale back as part of the deal .

Agree, I think if Rose is playing then Eriksen could play primarily on the left cutting inside, Lamela in the #10 position and Townsend on the right. But yes I think those 3 (possibly including Holtby as well) should be starting in the 3 attacking midfield positions.

Well chuffed for his Dad too.

How great must it be to have a son playing for the country. Much pride.

Yeah I know he could have played for Jamaica or Cyprus...

Electric again last night from Townsend. So so impressed and I will hold my hand up and I feel a little guilty as never really gave him too much notice when he was coming up through the ranks (may have been all the loan deals). We were hearing loads on Carroll, Parrott, Mason and Kane etc but Andros went a little under the radar but deary deary me he is quality.

Even since the start of the season you can see his decision making has improved 10 fold, with a player like him you have to appreciate that his ambition, shots and skills aren't always going to come off but encourage him to keep trying as when they do...WOW. For me he's the inform winger and should play where he wants, I much prefer Eriksen in the hole so for the time being I would go for Lamela on the Left. The beauty is they can easily chop and change during the game to keep defenders guessing.

On top of that we have Lennon back, Sigs in good form and Holtby as an ideal sub for Eriksen. Can't wait for the domestic stuff to kick off again now.

That sounds the best plan to accommodate them but with Townsend's performance on the right last night I think we have to keep him there.
I have always liked him but i couldn't believe what i was watching. He was sensational in ripping up the Polish defence on his own.

It even stood comparison with Bale- or am i getting carried away?

Has to be Townsend left Lamela right for me. Townsend is too good to leave out but despite Sigurdsson scoring recently I just feel that Lamela needs some games to adapt and show his true potential.

Andros' weaker foot crossing was excellent tonight too, so hopefully from the left side his delivery is even better.
Surely they can all alternate flanks, keep the opponents' defence guessing? No need to be so rigid with our line-ups

The good thing now is that if he maintains this form then teams will start to double mark him hopefully leaving space for our other attacking players.

Really pleased for him, he had a lot of people on here writing him off before he even had a chance while many said give him tine to see if he develops which he seems to be doing.

I remember one div on here claiming that he was a coach and townsend would never be pl player, you be gutted if that poster was coaching your kid.

Long way to go through but can't ask much more of him so far
