Much has been said and discussed concerning Berba and his probable departure. However, I would like to point out that in Juande Ramos, we have a shrewd and excellent manager capable of finding the right players and winning games.
JR has personally said that "I would obviously like him to stay here but ... Obviously, we have to cover our backs in case the player decides to leave and we have to have options to replace him...I'm sure the club would prefer to have the money because... they would be able to sign the players necessary. They would be able to look on the market for appropriate players."
He further adds: "What we want is for the player to be happy and enjoy his football. I'm indifferent if he went to one team or another team. The only thing I can tell you now is that he is a Tottenham Hotspur player."

Don't discount the fact that Berba could stay in the Premiership but with another club!
JR wants players who are happy and committed to be here and plays with their heart! Berba at the moment may not be in that category.

I don't think that Berba is irreplaceable! I believe there are other quality forwards out there that can do a similar if not better job that him (at least in terms of attitude). A few seasons ago, hardly anyone knew of Berba, yet our Spurs found the gem and he seized the opportunity to set this as a stage for him.
JR has installed confidence, determination, skill factor and vision in our team. He is a proven winner. He knows what football he wants to see Spurs play.
This season with JR, we have competed with the top 4 in a confident manner even though we were well off the pace in the Premiership with us being in the bottom 10.
I trust his signings. We beat the likes of Newcastle and Arsenal for Woodgate. Currently, we beat Newcastle, Arsenal and other big clubs for Modric. I am sure we can beat clubs to great talents out there.
So, cover your disappointments with the fact that JR is the right man for taking Spurs forward!
I haven't really heard us sing his name out loud yet. Perhaps we should voice our confidence!
I trust him! Do you?

While I am not trying to douse your enthusiasm, there is a saying which goes "A new broom sweeps clean...." ! Although things seems good so far with JR, I believe the jury is still out where he is concerned. Lets wait until at least the end of next season and see where we are in terms of our development, players bought and sold and league and cup positions before we put him on a pedestal.

Suffice it to say I believe the supporters should show their support and get right behind both him and the players.

Well I for one am with you, good post, He turned Sevilla into a real threat to the big two in spain whilst he was there, I have total confidence in JR. If he could prize Dani Alves away from Sevilla i'd be even happier

Dimitar Berbatov is not the most important person at Spurs - Juande Ramos is!
I would rather lose 10 Berbatovs than 1 Ramos!
One player will not make us into a great side,no matter who he is,its the team that matters and the man that shapes the team is Ramos!

blind optimism and guess work - of course i'm behind him but to see so many people continually bleating on about how he's some kind of second coming when all he's done is stare at what he's inherited, whilst Gus does all the hard work - bit lame really.

His work won't start until next year, this year it was just a case of steadying the ship and i was bored to tears with the 1 - 1 run of results. He's not managed to magic a new attitude out of the squad - in fact, the threat of being sold hanging over everyones heads would maybe mean they'll make the effort if they want to stay, but other than that...

i'll leave the jury out back until this window is over and i can see what he intends to work with, then we can make a call on whether this complete noob to the EPL has any future here or wether he'll do a Fruitini (who, as i recall, was touted as a saviour too after coming away from France like that - how quickly things change).

Lets not get carried away before we've even seen JR do... well, anything cept give us a wave

But didn't Carrick want to leave because we wouldn't improve his contract?

we didnt make a mistake, carrick wanted to leave.

For sure,

At the moment we are on a lower tier to the elite clubs and as such we are vunerable when bigger clubs come in for our players (as they can leave an be guarenteed big matches and instant success) especially when we are in a weaker postion regarding their contractial status.

Even Arsenal have shown vunerbility to this recently (flamini) they have gone four years without tangible success and have had CL football they whole time.

As such, whenever any of our players attract the attention of higher level clubs we will find it hard to keep them especially if they are not on long term contracts.

It could be argued that a club in our postion could be better served having a good overall team with now stand out stars who are clearly better then the other players ala BErbatov, so they we are better as a unit even if the level of certain indviduals has decreased.

i trust JR,

just dont want berba to go to another prem club! Whats the point in that?
If he goes abroad, chances are we would not face him for a year or so, he might have started to decline.

carrick was quite happy at spurs. Huddlestone will be better. Cannot believe we are wanting him out already considering his age, and good performances... and nice goals

I am sure we will be equipped to deal with him in defense as well as other threatening attackers.
Like i said, I trust Ramos. The signings of Woodgate and Hutton has proved to be good.

From summing up all the stuff i've read about it, the Carrick situation was that he would've been more than happy to stay if we hadn't arsed around with the contract - Martin was building the team around him, had admitted it in several interviews and, when he signed his new contract, it was on the promise from the club that they wouldn't sell Carrick.

millions of pounds later, the "offer was too good to turn down" and Martin's entire gameplan from his first season undone - If we'd actually offered Carrick the contract he deserved then he would likely have at least stayed another year, but Man U were decisive and just offered him a proper contract straight up.

To replace one of our best performers since he's been here?

Hutton will be one of the first names on the team sheet next year without doubt.

I think that as Ramos said, we want players who want to be here and play with their heart!
If Carrick wanted to go it was pointless trying to make him stay and so we need good business. Now Berba wants to go, so lets do good business and get a replacement!

As i said, if word is to believed, he would've stayed and wanted to stay but the club accepted an offer for him and, when Man U offered a contract and Spurs cocked around when he asked us to match it, he chose security.

There's little doubt that the board knew what they were doing - they wanted that cash, so they bungled a bit, just long enough to make sure Carrick wouldn't back out of the switch.

I don't like it, but that's how it appears to me.
