Another good generation killed by a shit manager. I can't believe how he is still in a job from last time round.
Agree he shouldn’t be anywhere near that job. It was crap two years ago with a better group.
This lot aren’t that good. Hudson Odoi trying to win it on his own. I think he is the only one who has played a full international.
The only one I can see progressing to the England team is Godfrey. He can play cb or wing back right or left.
Our problem is that the best under 21 are fast tracked to the first team so we usually field a weakened side.
Foden..Saka..Reece James..TAA prob still qualifies.

Haven't watched and I don't think he's the right person for the job but the U21's, and international football in general, is a bit of a thankless task. They don't see the players for months at a time and generally have not much idea who they will be able to pick.

Are you honestly going to get much done with the team when you have two or three days with them before a match having not seen them for three months?

There are some merits to what you're saying but he's not helping himself by playing McNeil at LWB. Looking at that roster, it is clearly stacked with attacking talent but it seems like the manager is content with playing it safe instead of giving those players the freedom to play good football.

Exactly if you don't get much time with your team then select a system that is simple to operate and players are familiar with. What does this clown do.. play's wing backs which neither Aaron or McNeil play week in week out.

Also our opposition have the exact amount of time they spend with their team and could be argued with less talent yet produce more.

He has always been a shit manager and I don't understand why he is still there.

Aidy Bothroyd - the U21 version of Gareth Southgate.

Quality squad yet woeful team selection.

Can't wait for him to play with a back 5 and 2 holding midfielders at home to San Marino tonight.

With the u21's available over the last few years it should be harder to lose than to win.
How Boothroyd has managed to achieve his record of failure is genuinely beyond me, and why it's still tolerated by the FA even more so.

The U21's should be used as a springboard for the senior team, win a couple of the big tournaments at this level and the next generation know what it's all about, and what it takes at the next level.
Winning is a habit and the earlier these lads learn it the better.

Look at the winners of the youth cup in the Premiership and it's the same top 5 winners that win the Premiership every year.

England vs Portugal tomorrow. If the game against the Swiss was any indication of how Bothroyd will approach this game, expect Portugal to overpower England quite easily.

I would have said this should apply for both the manager/coach and the players.

Appoint a promising slightly unpolished manager/coach and bring them through together with best of the players from the U21's, by the time the current senior manager has been through two or three tournaments, qualifiers and friendlies you should know enough about their approach, style of play, identity to know whether to change or stick with it.

The FA loves to dish out massive contracts to yes men leaving no room to drop them if they're crap.

team vs portugal:
ramsdale
tanganga guehi godfrey s.sessegnon
davies skipp smith-rowe
madueke nketiah r.sessegnon
that's how uefa have it but it could be the crappy 343 again with the sessegnons at wing back.

edit: gedson also starts for portugal.
