:ROFLMAO:

When Udinese headed to Genoa for their Serie A match against Sampdoria on Monday night, they probably didn't expect much travelling support to come with them. After all, it's a brutal five-hour drive across northern Italy in freezing conditions - and in any case the match was on telly.
They might have expected a bit more than what they got, however: just one fan turned out to cheer on his men.
The fan seemed quite happy to have an entire stand of the Luigi Ferrari stadium to himself, grinning for cameras, chatting to the two stewards who were assigned to stop him invading the pitch, and waving happily to the home fans.
And the local fans took him to their hearts in inspiring fashion, cheering him on as he stood in the cold, and even presenting him a shirt signed by Sampdoria skipper Daniele Gastaldello as a souvenir.
It hasn't emerged whether he was a former Udine resident now living in Genoa, or whether he had indeed traversed the country to cheer his men on. Either way, he ended up glad that he made the effort: Udinese ran out 2-0 winners to climb to eighth in the table.

lol That's a great story. Nice touch with the shirt too. If he did travel, the club should give this guy a free season ticket next season.

Great stuff. How many countries are big on away games? It seems France and Spain lag behind too

Wondering that meself

I thought Udinese were a fairly big club in Italy. That's laughable...one fan. We get more fans at friendly games away to Grimsby town

Geez

Bit more info on the guy
Udinese fan Arrigo Brovedani the only supporter to turn up for Serie A clash with Sampdoria

"When I went in the local fans booed me, I felt a bit offended.

"But in the end they clapped and invited me for coffee and a meal, and the club managers gave me a shirt.
"They wished me a merry Christmas."
Rounding off the experience for Brovedani, and making the lonely trip more than worthwhile, Udinese won the clash 2-0 and dedicated the victory to him.

A 5 hour drive on a Monday night in freezing conditions. Sometimes we don't appreciate how small England is.

Sometimes we don't appreciate how small England is.

I believe Beckham said the biggest shock to his system in the US was the size and the travel to away matches. Paris is closer to Baghdad than New York is to Los Angeles.

And it turns out he only went to the game because he happened to be in Genoa on business.

So, instead of being a sorry reflection of the state of Italian football (ie no away fans turning up) the story becomes a humorous tale of personal commitment and passion purely by coincidence.

I often go and watch Udinese and there's only ever a handful of away supporters (and not too many home fans either...).

That's about the same difference as London to Newcastle, so a piss poor performance from their supporters really, surely there are some that live closer to Genoa (or in Genoa) as well you would have thought?

Swedish footballer rewards club’s lone travelling fan at match

By Eurosport | World of Sport – 13 hours ago

(@LudvigNathell)
When Brommapojkarna travelled to Mjallby for their Swedish Allsvenskan match on Sunday, there was just one supporter there to back them in the away section. Though Brommapojkarna lost 4-2, that one fan offered vocal support that was so appreciated by his team that midfielder Bojan Djordjic, formerly of Manchester United, decided to reward him for his efforts.
"When I saw him, in his shirt, singing and cheering by himself, I decided I had to do something. So I'm going to pay for him to travel to a game of his choice and he'll get to meet the lads," Djordjic told Reuters.
The fan in question, Ander Ung, used to coach one of Brommapojkarna's junior sides, before moving 660 kilometres from Stockholm to Ystad in southern Sweden 20 years ago. He has not been to a home game since.
"You have to lift up people like that," Djordjic said. "I got his number last night and called him from our bus - the warmth and the joy in his voice was unbelievable. He deserves this."
Ung declined Djordjic's offer at first, but the player insisted. Brommapojkarna won promotion to the first division for the third time in the club's history last season.
Earlier this season, Udinese's single travelling fan delighted the world with his presence at their match against Sampdoria, but he didn't get a free trip out of that.
Ander Ung stands alone. (AP)
