Should do what they used to do in the English League Cup, where away goals only count after extra time if the tie finishes all square after 180 mins.
I read it was to prevent a repeat of this:IIRC the rule was originally brought in partly because teams would go to the away leg and shut up shop, this was back when defensive football was all the rage and much easier to do. It was an encouragement to play a more open style.
Nowadays that isn't so relevant so I can understand it a bit but i'll still miss it. Also, it's meddling for meddlings sake. Another example of them doing shitty little things because they can, because the big changes, the things they should be looking at, they just aren't interested in doing. Do away with the format of this, get rid of the CWC, this little things, that little things each chipping away at the game, loads of stuff the fans don't particularly want or even in some cases care about while corruption, breaching fair play, clubs resorting ot ESL etc etc just aren't addressed.
It all promotes the illusion that they 'care' about the game when the reality is, they are royally fucking it up from within, they are so out of touch with what football fans want it's beyond a joke. Money. There's their interest.
Penalty shootouts are what were introduced to stop coin tosses.I read it was to prevent a repeat of this:

If anything, at least we won't have to hear the bollocks "away goals count double" phrase anymore.
