Wiggo. The Tour win, 3weeks of proper hard work, alone was IMMENSE but that was just one of his wins this year. He captured the imagination of the British public. I think his tour win is what got the whole nation in the sporting mood this summer. The slowdown when Evans got a puncture and the teamwork to give wins for his teammates alkaline add to the mix.

On top off that he IS a personality.

If that's the case then surely the Scottish vote will be split between Murray and Hoy?

Nah the jocks are a bit more sophisticated than that. All their votes will go to Murray, Hoy cant beat Wiggins.
Its not just this award they do it on Xfactor/btri talent and all the other rubbish that require a public vote.

The public won't be as aware of this as the Tour and the Olympics, but he also won Paris-Nice, the Tour de Romandie and the Criterium du Dauphine prior to the Tour de France, which no one else has ever done before.

Don't get me wrong I think Wiggo deserves it, great year and a Who fan but anyone betting beware of nationalistic voting.

Any other year Murray would piss it but Wiggins should get it. The Tour De France is the most significant sporting achievement that that there is on this planet by a mile.

Exactly. And on top of that he's Britain's most decorated Olympian.

Happy to see a lack of footballers in the nominees. In your own words football 'sit down, shut up!'

Good banter from Wiggins there, Chris Frome didn't look too impressed though

I want Rory McIlroy to get it but don't think he will.

After the hoo-hah last time, it will definitely be a woman which also fits nicely with the Olympic fervour. Ellie Simmons is in with a good shout and especially being a paralympian doesn't hurt her chances. I think the first female Olympic boxer though, Nicola Adams will get it.She fits a lot of political profiles. And call me a cynic but as the public decide it's political as you can get.

I'm really enjoying this. Must be great for those actually there tonight, athletes and audience.

So many of them would be deserving. What a year it's been for sport.

Bit harsh rubbing the salt in with Hatton on the programme. Just not necessary.
