nothing particularly new here, wasn't sure i should post, but we feel sissoko is way too expensive for an unproven player and unless toulouse drastically change their position (which is unlikely to happen), we won't be signing him. not even sure if a CM will come in anymore - all depends on whether JJ is committed to fight for a place or not. we're happy to have JOH and KPB as back up.

Shame. Although things look rosy at the moment after our two wins I still think our squad could do with 1 or 2 more signings. Both midfielders.

Totally agree. I think the one thing we do know is Palacios has given us the real enforcer in midfield we haven't had for a while, and I'm not sure we have adequate like for like cover should he (heaven forbid) get injured or suspended. O'Hara has the tenacity, but somehow doesn't seem as imposing, Jenas has the athleticism but lacks the steely edge. I half think KPB could step up to the plate, has the physical attributes and technique, and if the ITK on here is to believed, his mentality has improved dramatically, I'm sure we'll see in time.
If Jenas does go, as is being hinted at on here, a new CM becomes even more of an issue, though I'm not sure who.

Similarly, do we have anyone of similar guile and creativiy to Modric? Dos Santos, Bale and Rose offer natural width I suppose, O'hara too with his left foot, and with the ever improving Ekotto offering support, or maybe Keane dropping back allowing us to field another of our strikers, we may get by, but just getting by may not be enough, Modric offers so much out there.
Would it be worth approaching Pompey with a cheeky bid for Krancjar?

Other than that, we look better off than we have done for some time, have some real quality and depth, though LB is a little light, but once Bale is fit, and our CD's return , Bassong can slide across of needed, Chimbonda and Naughton also I suppose.

Shame, he looks a good player but Toulouse obviously know this too. Their valuation is very offputting.

Those kind of crazy high prices mean a player who'll expect to start. A 19 year old from another league who'll take 3 months to adapt? No thanks, the Hudd is playing out of his skin and is giving us everything we've been needing for so long, he and Wilson are superb together and Jenas can come in for either of them. Keep the status quo, if it ain't broke.....

We simply must sign cover for Palacios. If he gets a long term injury we are back to square one and all the disappointing away results associated with it.

I'd love Sissoko, he's class, and I want us to spend the money on him.

However, given our recent form, I'd probably be happy iif we just signed a back-up to fill in for Wilson when he's crocked.

You cannot rely on Huddlestone at CM in a 442 for too many games. Good opposition give Hudd the run around too often.

There are games when you need a Jenas (or a Sissoko) because the strikers a and Lennon don't contribute much off the ball.

I like Hudd and I think he is good to have around, but let's not get carried away, too many times I've seen him put in ho hum performances when the heat's on.

I'm fine with our current squad. Don't sell JJ, esp if the replacement is Brown - so that's JJ/Hudd/Palacios for two starting spots (Palacios is def not going to be here for some games, and Hudd has been inconsistent in the past, so I do think JJ is going to be getting games), with KPB/JOH as cover. We can shift Modric to the middle for some games.

I also think it's a very silly idea to be possibly strengthening Villa or Everton when they look so vulnerable, unless they offer some shamelessly silly money. We have no need to sell and our squad is looking good, as is team spirit, so why tinker? Pick up some cheap young prospects, or players of obvious class (eg Sneijder/VdV), if they are available, but sideways moves and expensive risky signings are silly at this stage.

I think we need a backup for Palacios.

He and Modric I think are currently the two most important pieces of the spurs jigsaw in what we are getting... A balanced midfield. If we lose Modric, we lose our creative spark. If we lose Palacios, we lose our defensive balance, the midfield shape, the cover in front of the back four..

Im happy to keep JJ, he's a top notch player. But we need a hard grafting ball winner like this sissoko lad seems to be..get him in!

We need cover for Wilson. Sissoko would be that AND could play alongside him in some hard away games. So i think we should spend on him but up to how much ??

No, he COULD be that player, not 'would'. He's 19 years old and coming from a poor league, and I haven't been hugely impressed by him from what I've heard - in any case, it'd be a HUGE ask for him to slot into the team and adjust to the PL quickly and adequately replace a player of Wilson's caliber. I don't think at his current stage of development he'd be as good cover as JJ in the PL (who I don't rate much, mind you, but at least he has plenty of experience and will suffice for a few games).

If Harry really, really wants Sissoko I trust his judgment, but at his prices, I'd rather let Sissoko develop another season playing games regularly. Unless he has an unbelievable season, his price isn't going to get much higher than it's current level since it's so ridiculous.

if we going to take a punt on sissoko and silly money id rather wait until Jan and see if we can get Livermore in that role........ i've said before i think he has the right attitude for that role, but whether its too soon for him im not sure. Still worth a punt before we spend stupid money on someone who hasnt played in PL.

We all seem to be wraped up in the win and forgetting it was Hull not Man U, Arse, Chelsea or even Man Shity, it was Hull.
Just the other day some where saying Thudd is not good enough, now because of a good win he is now good enough (untill we play our next game and we get beaten) Life is a gamble and we need to take them. If we spend the money on Sissoko and he can't cut it then we would return to the Hudd and who knows with that competition from another CM he might even do a Lennon and step up his game. The point about the cost to buy the player should not concern us. Levy has done a good job with our finances so if we pay big money for a CM its because we can afford it

For that sort of money we could get an experienced leader at a good age. I wouldn't mind Scott Brown if he's available at a respectful price. He looks to be the sort of player to cover for Palacios. For the money Sissoko would cost i would expect a first team player. I dont think we need a partner for Palacios, just cover.
