We all seem to be wraped up in the win and forgetting it was Hull not Man U, Arse, Chelsea or even Man Shity, it was Hull.
Just the other day some where saying Thudd is not good enough, now because of a good win he is now good enough (untill we play our next game and we get beaten) Life is a gamble and we need to take them. If we spend the money on Sissoko and he can't cut it then we would return to the Hudd and who knows with that competition from another CM he might even do a Lennon and step up his game. The point about the cost to buy the player should not concern us. Levy has done a good job with our finances so if we pay big money for a CM its because we can afford it

I agree that we all seem to be getting wrapped up in the win, but wether it was Hull or Manure, it was a very good win away from home. Something we have struggled to do for a long long time, and we actually played football. Phil brown Even changed his team after 1/2 hour because he couldn't cope with our midfield. That is a huge compliment. Paul Jewell on Sky, when he was watching the game, said we were playing like The Gypsys!!, again, I hate them , but another huge compliment.

So I can understand why some of us are reluctant to bring in a player who is going to cost 16 million or whatever as a back up, but as I have said in previous posts, any player who comes into the team should not be classed as a back up, hopefully he can push Wilson to become even better, or take Wilsons place, beacause that it what we should now be aiming for.

I'm fine with our current squad. Don't sell JJ, esp if the replacement is Brown - so that's JJ/Hudd/Palacios for two starting spots (Palacios is def not going to be here for some games, and Hudd has been inconsistent in the past, so I do think JJ is going to be getting games), with KPB/JOH as cover. We can shift Modric to the middle for some games.

I also think it's a very silly idea to be possibly strengthening Villa or Everton when they look so vulnerable, unless they offer some shamelessly silly money. We have no need to sell and our squad is looking good, as is team spirit, so why tinker? Pick up some cheap young prospects, or players of obvious class (eg Sneijder/VdV), if they are available, but sideways moves and expensive risky signings are silly at this stage.

Don't bout you but if Palacios is out I do not fancy facing to many teams in the premiership with this midfield - I think we will get destroyed

Lennon - O'Hara - Hudd - Modric

Whether Sissoko is good enough or not I don't know, I've never seen him play but if the club think he is then it comes down to the money.
I don't really get the idea that he's worth this much but not that much, no player has an intrinsic value he only has a value to a club that wants to buy him and if he is really what we need then £16m or so may be his value to us.
What we are dealing with here is the possibility of a top four place, don't kid yourself that's not what the club is looking at this year and to be honest we have a team good enough but not if we get a couple of injuries so any purchase is going towards procuring an awful lot of money for us.

Exactly, and that is what top four teams do, they have strength in depth and players always pushing for a start - complacency has been a killer at this team for many years - I hope and it looks like this is finally helping Hudd, knowing one bad game and he could be on the bench, or when JJ (if he comes back) comes back will be pushing hard for his place!

Everyone is getting way too carried away after 2 good results. If we lose Palacios to injury, or suspension (which will almost certainly happen at some stage) we have absolutely no one to fill his place and we go back to being bossed away from home. I don't quite get the hype about Huddlestone over the last 2 games, whilst he has played well, for me he still highlighted his painful lack of mobility, and Ohara is certainly not good enough. I will be very disapointed if we do not sign a combatative midfielder as I think later in the season we will come undone without one. That said however, I have not seen anything of Sissoko so I cannot pass judgement on his value or whether he is the right type of player for us, but from the midfielders we are linked to it seems obvious of the type of player Harry is looking for.

I just don't understand some people on here.

They'd rather keep our own untested kids as understudies to Palacios than one of the brightest young prospects in France who is now a full French international.

Believe me, one injury to Wilson and the wheels will come off very quickly if we are having to rely on Janas, JOH, KPB etc

The performance was second to none but the point I was making is if it was a team from the top 4 or 6 Hudd would not have had that much time on the ball, however its all speculations/opinions on my part, for all I know Harry could have him doing something in training that helps him to become a top class CM and he will do the same against any team we play

The only team who will give Huddlestone vastly less time on the ball is Utd. I don't think its being fair to Huddlestone who has been solid so far to say its only happened as people have stood off him as he has clearly upped his game and worked hard to do it

I wanted Sissoko in but Huddlestone has been very impressive in the first 2 games this season and i'm now reluctant to change it, this could be the making of him and he could strike up an awesome partnership with Wilson in the middle.

No. We are wrapped up in 2 convincing performances agaianst Liverpool who only lost twice last year and Hull away, which is actually still a tough place to go, especially with our woefully shit away record.

They are good results, but more importantly they were totally dominant performances. Liverpool just went and battered Stoke by the way...

That said, it is obvious we need a young, but capable understudy to Palacios. Sissoko, from what I hear, is more a Jenas-style player. Atheltic and box to box, but not a destroyer type like Palacios. Is there another Palacios around though?

I agee with the talk of someone to back up Palacios - i think if sissoko costs more than 12 million he isn't worth it due to being unproven in this league. We either need a player with premier league experience who can adapt straight away and put in a top performance when called upon, or a vieira type player who can't play in every game but can step up to the plate when needed.

The point about Huddlestone is that he and Palacios have been working as a team to boss the midfield against top 4 opposition at home and relegation fodder opposition away. We have dominated midfield through both games, therefore, both of them played well, because they did the job that they are there to do, plus Hudd made more tackles than in any two matches I have seen and got two assists.

As for what happens if Palacios gets injured: it's a concern, but from what we hear, Harry is pretty happy with Jenas, O'Hara and Boateng as cover. None of them is Vieira or Roy Keane and Wilson is obviously first choice for that role, but I'm comfortable with any of them stepping in if needed - in particular, O'Hara and Boateng are both sufficiently combative to do the job.

Our squad doesn't have any bad individual players. At the minimum, they're all good, upper-Premiership-standard players, as good as Fletcher or O'Shea are for Man Utd. The problems have been the lack of team balance and mental strength and, if these two matches are any indication, those problems are well on their way to being solved.

Do you think Hudd had a good game against Pool?

i do! he made some good challenges, worked very hard, covered a lot of ground and was always available for a pass. I have seen him have a few top performances against top clubs - Man Utd at home (either last year or year before) he totally ran the show!

Regarding the ITK - i hope we get this guy in as our depth isnt good enough and i do feel that away to a team like Chelsea we could do with a slightly more defensive line up so i would replace Hudd for those kind of games!

Central Midfielders win League Titles (Vieira / Petit, Scholes / Keane, Lampard / Makalele) I look at Huddlestone and Palacios and I see a potentially great partnership that could dominate for three or four seasons.

It is the area that we have always been weak in. The last time we had strength there in Jenas (Lennon) Carrick Tainio Davids we should have been 4th and played the entire season as a top 4 team. You could also argue that the rest of that team was quite weak and certainly not as good as we have now. Obviously you have to take into account that the other teams are also better but I really feel we have a squad and team that is good enough to take on anybody.

Getting back to the midfield, I have never been a hud fan but in the last 2 games he has looked alot better. I like the way he has covered the ground, been more aggressive, positionally better and varied his passing more. Strangely what he has also done is allow Palacios to get forward alot more than he does with Jenas. As it stands I am happy with them there and don't think that JJ should walk back i.

I still expect Jenas to come in and pick up his partnership with Palacios from last season. He and Huddlestone looked good while Palacios was out last season too. But it would certainly help to get another in the Palacios mould. But considering how long its taken to get this one, it might be a bit much to ask. We're a team challenging top 6. Top 4 would be huge, but its not our main target. And for me, our squad is plenty good enough to finish 5th or 6th this season. Villa have lost Barry permanently. Everton will lose Lescott permanently. And we're worried about losing Palacios temporarily. I dont think its a major problem if this is the squad for the season.

i agree that we need to sign cover for palacios. a player that can play alongside him but can also fill his boots and play alongside Thudd/jj is what we need! and i reckon we'll still get someone like that, just maybe not sissoko.
