why dont you guys think its a plan?...for supposition Gomes is out for 6 weeks, we then ofcourse have a great back up in Carlo but if he were to get injured? then we would have to turn to one of the kids, who clearly would not be up to the task...Harry & co clearly wish to build on and maintain the start we've had or should we revert to type? look we have dervitte but harry went and got bassong, why? i think the answer is obvious....why undermine our momentum, even if it is only two games thus far?DL knows that purchasing a seasoned addition, which fits with the policy of buying to improve, is well worth the investment and would be seen as doing our best to really make an impact on the chimps tea party at the top...

VY, why did we recall button if we are going to get james?

we will need someone on the bench against Westham. If we are going for James it wont be done intime for him to make the game.

Didn't we call up Button for cover?

Exactly, with Cudicini and Button as back up we are fine for the time that Gomes will be out.

Unless Harry is looking for an excuse to replace Gomes because he doesn't rate him.

If Harry did not rate him, he would have thought about replacement before Gomes got injured, inn'it?

Why recall Button?in case we don't get James...I think pre-emptive planning is a good idea...no?and you'd rather rely on button and maybe undo the work that's been done?why?

I'm sure goalkeeping coach Tony Parks will have some input, but Jansson has appeared to ahead of Button in pecking order for at least a season, despite being younger.

Jansson has done well for our academy but has little competitive experience. However Button had a mare in one of his games on loan iirc

Jansson has also played for the first team in friendlies but, yes, he doesn't seem to have been sent out on loan, so he's got no competitive league experience. Jansson was great against l'arse in last season's youth cup games, and looked very composed.

With Button, I too remember accounts of the poor lad being criticized for blunders during his various loan spells. However, he is still young, has played for England in numerous age groups, and Parks will have seen a lot of him.

If nothing else, Jansson and Button can now compete for the back-up spot in training until Gomes gets fit again. Hopefully, very quickly.

From Sky:
Begovic is to come on for James, who is injured with what looks like a muscle problem.

Seems like an almost too-perfect fit to me. We're in need of a short-term replacement (IMO) & at 40 years old that's all he'll ever be. He's a Harry player & as experienced as they come. He'd hit the ground running & be a bonus for the dressing room.

I'm all for it.

It would be a strange move for James, in a World Cup Year he can guarentee his number one spot by staying with Pompey. Why? It's the Shay Given factor, good keeper getting plaudits for keeping the score down, more shots to save etc.

However his recent Guardian Column really made it seem like he is hacked off with what is going on at Fratton Park. So it is plausible that he is looking for a way out.

Didn't Harry say today that he wasn't interested?

since when does Redknapp say anything honestly regarding transfers, he always says what he has to say....."had no contact!...."he's not our player so...." "he belongs to (such and such) team"....

He said we weren't interested in crouch either!!

Not happy with the Crouch purchase and i cerainly would not be happy with buying James. Harry leave portsmouth alone and stop trying to make us pompey but in a white kit!!!! :bang:

Get a keeper on loan for three months. End of!

hope it isnt true. im happy with cudicini in goal. james coming in would signal an end to gomes IMO. cant see a way for him back in the team if this were to happen.

I'd prefer if we went for any GK with experience as a loan option (someone with similar ability to cerny).

I vey much doubt that tbf. Gomes is our number 1 and will stay our number 1
