Cahill would be a very astute signing. He's a young player already playing at the top and can only get better as he ages and will learn a lot from players like Woodgate and King.

I know what Mil1lion is saying though about not getting to excited about a CB, we are Tottenham and want some Glamour signings!

Cahill - Dawson - Basson would make a very impressive (and young) set of central defenders.

Cahill does look a good signing. My only reticence would be that if we had moved last summer his price would have been a third of what it is now. Not that it means he isn't worth it, but it means he has not been a 12-16m player very long, ergo he could lose form (temporary) just as easily as prove class (permanent).

sounds like a good buy - i hope we don't lose o'hara against his wishes though

But his wish is to leave us. He has stated so several times. He wants matches, we won't give them to him. QED.

No...What sort of football do you want us to play....In my world I only want to see strikers that defenders find hard to play against because of their movement not because they are just "ard"

Very underrated player, ideal for tough away games better option than Crouch.
Sometimes we need a hard player who doesn't get bullied my physical defenders.

I can't bring myself to think that Gary Cahill is worth any more than £10m to us. I know he's a very good player with a bright future; but if we pay £15m we're being mugged off IMO.

Also, I know in real life that inflation in the UK is always positive, but in terms of football, we've just had a boom in player prices, this is almost like our recession: no clubs have got any money, so player prices should drop. The only exception is for top, world class players, as Real Madrid and Man City will have enough money to keep the values of the top 50 players, for example, high.

I also think that a £16m price tag often means that you have to play, especially for a centre back. We have many options, and if he suffers from a lack of form, which is quite possible as you said, would he be droppable.

Also, would it make him the second most expensive CB after Ferdinand in the entire league?

fair enough Bill - but i think we should give him matches - starting on sat

the he'd want to stay

obviously if harry has ruled that out then he has to go

a mistake IMO

Hmmm... not sure about this one. Cahill is a promising player, but for the money we'd have to pay for him (I reckon they'd ask for 15 million minimum), is he really that much better than Dawson/Bassong? I'm not sure that he is.

I'd much rather us wait until the summer, add 5-10 million to that sum, and buy a player to replace King long-term. For me, Cahill isn't that man...

City would surely be interested in him. They need a CB, he has Prem experience...

This would be a fantastic signing!

Cahill is a good player and will get better
regardless of being English or not he will be worth
the money.

This one could have some legs. After speaking to Harry this morning my boss told me that Harry can and will buy this window, but only if his top targets are available!

He is Happy with what we have, and wouldnt mind the window closing today to be honest. He has bid for 3 players so far but only to cover potential sales.
The only exception to the rule is goalkeeper, but its hard to find someone to come in who is good enough but only prepared to be on the bench.

The reason I say that this might have legs is because Harry said he cant afford to look beyond this season at the most, with Woody and King!

We'll see?!?

I know what you're saying, but it's very hard to tell at the moment. Citeh paid £22m for Lescott, and he's shit.

If Cahill stays at the Lane for 10 years and becomes the bedrock of our defence, £15 would look a bargain.

Agree with this. I've been saying since I was knee-high to a grasshopper that JoH should be our understudy to Palacios. He's sharp, combative, strong and works tirelessly. He's perfect material for moulding into a DM.

How the hell is dawson dodgy? Because he slipped?

Seriously some people need to get their heads screwed on, cos they're losing it.

Dawson has been the epitomy of solid this year.
Dawson's been our most consistently good player this season IMO, along with H-Lo.

I think I must be missing something with this one, Gary Cahill ? Who plays for Bolton ? Since when did Bolton have players worth buying ?

He got a call up to the england squad this year didn't he?

Anway, I've put the question to a rather nice contact I wasn't aware I had at Spurs, and he is going to get back to me later tonight or tomorrow.

Same contact who gave me two tickets for tomorrow, which unfortunately I had to turn down!!

I'll be in touch mods/rumour rangers!

because he suffers a good few lapses in concentration

last 2 games he's had them in both

against Hull he got turned inside out and they very nearly scored

against the scousers he switched off just long enough for Aquilani to get the better of him

good player but not a top player
No more so than John Terry, who is considered by many to be world class.

I think Anelka was the last one.

Is he any better than Dawson or Bassong? I think Tomkins at West Ham is a bigger talent.

If we are looking for a long term replacement for Ledley and Woodgate, for that type of money would go for Simon Kjaer
