They are allowed loan signings and frees now.

Peter Storrie said that they would not be buying as they were trying to clear debts, not add to them.

Very poor defender, i hope not... He has absolutely no positional sense
Got a great goal last night - shame it was at his own end - This guy is not a replacement for King or Woodgate, sorry! We need to be looking at young world class defenders! If he was that good why did we sell him - It is not like the Keane/Defoe deals where we actually made money on the deals........This makes no sense at all.........Sounds like a panic January buy, exactly what harry said he would not do!:bang:

The moral of the story is, don't say anything bad about the club.

Or it may be awkward when we buy you back.

Anyway, I understand why we are considering this move, provides cheap cover and decent sell on value with Kaboul being so young and Harry has worked with him before and knows what to expect from him.

Personally would rather just save the time and effort to get this done and get something else done instead, a backup goalkeeper and a new striker would be my biggest concerns but I understand it might be a case of nobody wants to sell in Jan. so we just have to make due with what we have and centerback is a problem area with Woody and King always injuried.

I really can't see this happening, like Grant said if they sell all the players they are meant to he will have to play

Could a further consideration be that we are also taking out some insurance against the possilbilty of things going completely tits up Pompey? Apparently there is still a debt of around £2 million due to us from the original transfer which presumably would be jeopardised if they go into receivership. At the right price we also obtain a useful(ish) backup for unexpected further injury or we could, as suggested by Banny, simply loan him back to them. Just a thought.

Yes good point, BUT, would this deal jeopardise our chances of actually going out into the market and signing a real replacement CB for the future........I think if we got him now, we would say, we are okay for now and forget other possible deals, and that is my worry!

As an apprentice CB I thought Kaboul showed promise and was harshly treated. We could do worse I'm sure as a squad CB but with Woodgate and King fucked, surely what we need is a ready to role quality CB with some experience and preferably some leaership ability.

I'm with Spursking on this one. I like Kaboul. He is a top top defender - maybe world class but he is young for a CB and time will tell.

Yes he screws up, but then so does every player at one time. Though, I think his time at Pompy has made more of a man of him.

Any young player coming to a big club such as ours risks the excitement of it all going to his head.

All these young 'superstar' players are 'sold up' by the club to make them sign and then the frustration of not playing week-in week-out is harder to bear!

YK seems to have matured at pompy and maybe Harry and his team had a hand in that at one time.

We have Dawson and Bassong who are both very good professionals; but be need quality in depth. King and Woodgate are finished at the top-top level and we need solid passionate leaders in our team. Dawson can be one of these - Kaboul another.

Kaboul seems to have matured on the south coast. I'd have him back.

Not sure I would agree, isn't he about the same age as Dawson, and a bit older than Corluka? So he is hardly a kid, or are Dawson and Corluka just kids?

Yesterday. The premier league have lifted the transfer embargo because of it, but only for free and on loan players.

Cheers  - damn work and baby getting in the way of me keeping up again...

Glad to see we are getting in some defensive cover, Kaboul is probably the best option available in the market right now - assuming the price is right.

Good point. He's immature, which has nothing to do with age.

But he does seem to have learned something at Pompey, and he has a ton of natural skill and strength, which hopefully Harry will nurture.

Charlie - 23
Kaboul - 24
Daws - 26

Charlie and Kaboul are still pretty young for defenders and Daws is just about to come into his peak years. With Kaboul like Daws it's all about developing the mental side of there game as physically especially with Kaboul they're monsters.

I second this, I think we need to buy a real top player to step into Woody and King's shoes - Kaboul is not that player.

Short term cover and a bit of promise - yes but he's not going to provide the mainstay of our back line for the next few years, which is what is needed.

My opinion is that the best age for a CB is around 26-30. Kaboul still has a couple of years to raise his game.

He's def got the attitude and he's got the skill/. Does he have the mindset to really pull it all together.

I think with King and woodgate as advisors he could really become very, very good.

There is a talent there. Can we unlock it?
