From what i can gather some fans love him because he's a great shot stopper and makes eye catching saves, whilst others don't rate him as he doesn't do the basic things a keeper needs to well, such as command his box well. Personally I'd rather we get a solid dependable keeper who doesn't make mistakes, even if he isn't the most spectacular shot stopper.

I don't know about that. Barthez was hardly a huge success at United or Liability Lehman at the Arse...

Barthez was very popular at United initially, but the fans quickly got tired of him performing step-overs in his area. As you would. It's alarming enough when your LB does it.

Erm, are we talking about Robbo or Kameni here?

Oh I agree he was a success at first - he had big boots to fill after Schmeichel and that 'personality' help get him through.

But it's usually only a matter of time before the eccentricities of a 'misfit' keeper grow tiresome and ultimately cost goals.

No frills and solid - that's how I like my keepers.

Robbo seems to have a reputation as a great shot stopper, but I'm sure someone posted some stats which indicated Robbo made the 2nd lowest number of saves form shots in the entire Prem last season.

but he's a great shot stopper when the shots are right next to his lumbering body

It seems Kameni is lacking in the same areas Robbo has been over the last season and a half, ie not commanding the area and instilling confidence in his defence... Which would make it pointless to replace Robbo with Kameni...

I really don't know enough about Kameni. I've seen him a few times and he's been OK. There is a bit of the David James about him and 3-5 years ago that would have scared me but my opinion of James has changed a bit (but that's probably a case of him maturing and his decision making process getting better). But Robinson's only quality is his distribution. His shot stopping, decision making, handling are all piss poor. So any keeper that is an improvement on those things would be a bonus.
To be honest I'd happily setle for Cudicini if all else fails.

Cudicini wasn't particularly noted for commanding his area, either. I'd sooner Jääskeläinen.
