everyone raving about caulker.. but the lad is what not even 20 years old... send him out on loan again next year at premier level or even back at swansea. why not? he wont get games at spurs next season so let him develop elsewhere till we have no choice but to take him back... he will come back better player for it

with regards verthongthen.. money talks and bullshit walks. nothing else.

You could have said the same thing about Walker at the start of this season, now he is PFA Young Player of the Year. The same thing about Phil Jones playing half a season before moving to United.

Why shouldn't he be fighting for a place in the team next season? King and Gallas will have to be used sparingly, his conifdence will be sky-high after the season at Swansea, give him a go, whilst accepting that their will be some errors from a rookie.

It would be exciting to see a team with Walker, Caulker, Livermore featuring. Whilst the former is not home grown, we have developed him, it's great to have that in our squad, otherwise young players around the place will lose heart.

If they're good enough, they're old enough.

Naughton has been very good for Norwich this season too. Not up to BAE level but I'd be more than happy to see him rotated in when Benny needs a rest, or indeed on the right when Walker's missing. Townsend to come back from loan to deputise for Bale as well... Levy's long term plan is starting to bear fruit.

POTL on COYS regarding Vertonghen...

I'd say they (Arsenal presumably) are favourites for him at this point in time. Hazard also looking like a complete no go. Fergie and Mancini have both met the player personally in France, trying to sell him 'the dream'. The training complex and the fact we are London based will now put us in a far stronger position when negotiating a transfer, but like others we stand no chance with players of his calibre without CL football. And our financial clout with wages hinders us when up against clubs like City, who's owners are happy to throw uncapped amounts at clubs and players, thank goodness for the financial fairplay. Need a win tomorrow night, Can't tell you all how big an impact it will have if we get it, or fail.

If he plays defence and Wenger wants him we should leave him well alone.

I don't think Townsend is good enough to make it here, lots of talent, but he hasn't been developing at the required rate according to all the loan scouting reports.

In reference to POTL's post, if indeed having CL football or not next season will have THAT much of an impact on our very future its even harder to understand why Mr Levy failed to bring in someone to ensure we got CL football next season.

I really believe he felt it was in the bag and gambled on leaving all dealings to the summer when he knew who would be the manager and could potentially sign bigger better players.

WIthout CL football however that will look like one almighty fuck up of a gamble

I think we will find it very hard to get him to Spurs, if we were sat in third things would be very different, if we manage to get third then they may be again but as it stands i dont see it.

 this is where the whole redknapp england will he wont he fiasco & the lack of focus on his fucking day job at thfc is going to cost us dear..the lack of knowledge & what seems to be the lack of interest in prospecting for quality players for the future is a damning indictment of the man at this level!!.
it seems like all around us have their targets earmarked & have gone early to get them.
fucking small time tosser.

Really? So Vermaelen, Sagna, Clichy are turds are they? Even Koscielny is starting to look have-decent after adapting to the PL.

Now look at the defenders he has brought in and think about how good they are. You picked the best ones there, and still had to stoop to "Half decent".

Maybe time to turn our attentiion to other CB targets such as Douglas at Twente - still only 24 he looked class against us in the CL group matches.

There must be a host of less glamorous options that can upgrade our team and squad and do a job even if they don't seem like world beaters

Cisse was expensive ish but he wasn't on the agenda of the biggest teams and Newcastle have pulled off a master stroke signing him it appears thus far, same can be said about Ben Arfa, Cabaye, Ba and Tiote.

Canvani was available for not so much a few seasons ago and by all accounts we could have signed Rossi for a fraction of what we supposedly tried to sign him for later after his hattrick at the Lane.

Players will always be out there, talented but still emerging and in need of a bigger club to take a gamble on them before they become world class. Ok the gamble won't always pay off but until such time we are in a position to pay top wages and offer CL football and title challengers for the top players we have to remember who and where we are and do good business rather than chasing our tails to sign players who won't come.

Not sure what loan scouting reports you have read, but not the same as many others. If you had said the same about Livermore last season I might have agreed with you - and he is now regarded as a pretty good alternative in the first team squad.

Townsend is 20 so by no means the finished article but well regarded at the club - hence he has a contract until 2016 - and did pretty well in Europa League for Spurs given that the majority of the time he was played at LB (he is left or right wing). Much better prospect than Livermore and a shoe in as an alternative to Bale and Lennon - if you want a more established player than Townsend, I can understand that, but think you are going to be disappointed as imo Levy's plan is to get on average one or two youth team players into the first team squad every year (following Livermore and Walker this year).

Not sure this guy is as good as some are saying. I would imagine playing in the centre of midfield in the Premier League is a completely different level to what he has experienced. Would he be anything more than just a last resort in such a position or left back if he were to join? If so then no point listing that as a positive in my opinion. Corluka "can play centre half" remember!

Only seen him play about 6 times. Looks good on the ball and steps out with it well. Not overly convinced he is all that when it comes to defending though but to be fair I have not seen enough of him.

Caulker is arguably the best young centre half in the division right now. Not many 20 year olds holding down a first team place in such an important position right now. He isn't just holding down a place actually, he is a key player for Swansea.
It's not unrealistic to think he will improve a fair bit with us next season, especially surrounded by better players.

I'm all for giving the lad a real chance.

I thought he was doing well at Birmingham?

Probably 2 to 3 in the squad every two seaosns, otherwise I agree.
If anyone believes that Daniel Levy has spent all of this time, energy and MONEY on restructuring the club and building our state-of-the-art training centre, that he is oing to settle for one Ledley King every decade or so, they are seriously misunderestimating the Mighty Mini Me ;)
