He's a fucking brilliant player. He's not at his peak any more but he's still one of the best footballing busy ****'s out there and has been for a long time. If players like him play for someone else you can easily hate them, but he'd be one of the first names on my team sheet every week. Bit like Palacios should be for us.
I love busy ****'s that can play football too. Invariably the most valuable players on the pitch in terms of importance to the team dynamic.

Has looked lazy and has played very cynically....funny listening to Waddle and the other bloke who were taking the piss about the special rule that precludes referees from booking Van Bommel at this WC. They were amazed when he got booked at the end
He's been absolute quality for years and is such an important part of that team. He has got a nasty streak but playing in that position he needs one; him or Gareth Barry chasing down Ozil.....??
I'd still have him at Spurs like a shot, even with Wilson we could do with a real hardman.

Its not his dirty tackles that piss me off, that's his bread and butter, its the way he feigns injury after bringing someone else down because he thinks (correctly at the World Cup it seems) that it'll stop him getting booked. Doesn't the guy know that everyone in the world is watching the slow-mo replays and he is making himself look like a prime tit time and again?

Agree with the pro Van Bommel posters... compared to him Gareth Barry is a sick joke, an absolute joke. He's nasty, he does whatever he can for his country, he can actually play, he's completely different from any of our national shower and the Dutch are in a world cup final. You want players like that on your side not against you. He may not be "likeable" but when you've won as much as him, thats probably not a great issue.

I think the whole Holland squad have been absolutley disgraceful this world cup. the word fair play doesnt come into their vocabulary. I really wanted them to do well at this world cup. But having watched their antics (Robben especially) I really hope they lose. Added to that Van Persie. Who I HATE! come on Germany or Spain as far as i am concerned.

Whilst I am sure nobody in Holland will give a fig about it if they bring home the trophy, I agree they are a very cynical team, very unlikeable.
Its a shame because I have always loved Dutch football from Cruyff through to Bergkamp. Its not an isolated case though, both they and Portugal were a disgrace at the Battle of Nuremberg.
