its most likely a re-hash of the summer rumours, he wants out, at the time we needed a new striker so the tabloids have put 2 and 2 together and got green

would love him to come in though, just cant see how he would fit in and we wouldnt pay 100k

Not sure he'd be up to the pace of the EPL any more and he's not a natural partner for Keane or Defoe.

IMO Adriano's a much more attractive proposition if we're looking for a former world class high wage freeby.

I really dont think we need another striker, even if we sell Pav. Crouch, Keane and Defoe should be enough to get us through the season (With Giovani or Kranjcar able to play behind a striker). Then next season if we're in Europe, we can make a move in the summer for another striker.

I'd love RvN just adds something different than what we had and is proven in the Prem.

As long as we get of Keane and Pav of course

And risk it costing us CL again like it did in 2006 when we tried to see out the season with just Mido, Keane and Defoe.

It would be shooting our European hopes squarely in the foot to drop down to 3 strikers.

Well wages aside (we would NEVER pay him 100k or anywhere close) I'd like to think he'd give us more options as he's great at holding up play, decent linkage and cool finishing. Haven't seen him play for a year or two so couldn't comment on his current fitness and pace. We'd have to sell Pav of course

All that said, it wouldn't send out a good message to Gio and Tarrabt would it ?

We have a much stronger squad than we had back then. Kranjcar can play behind a front man. Giovani can play the same role as Robbie Keane. Modric can also play a number 10 role. Plus Mido always had injury doubts anyway, which is not something you can say for Crouch, Defoe or Keane. I'm sure we have enough attacking players for the season. Plus theres always Obika or Taarabt to be called back from loan aswell.

If any of Defoe, Keane or Crouch get seriously injured before February then a new striker would be a good idea. But we ended last season strongly, and that was without Defoe. So i'm sure we'd be fine.

I'm pretty convinced that Pav is off in January, I certainly would beif I was him, so a backup 4th striker is necessary but not at £100k a week, mind you I can't see anyone paying him that much anyway, he may be on it at Real but he won't get it anywhere else.

Pav is probably off, so this makes sense to me. I'm sure Levy would try and drive the wages down a bit but I would be in favour of getting him in.

Let's rewind a couple of weeks, 0-0 against Stoke with 20 minutes left. RVN enters the fray, would we have got the decisive first goal? We will never know but you'd feel a bit more confident he'd score as opposed to Pavlova.

I'm going to fly in the face of popular opinion here. I reckon it isn't beyond the realms of possibility that we'd pay 80-100k a week if he came on a free.

I'd love for this to happen. It's a risk but to be successful we need to take a few chances. We're not going to be reaching for the stars if we keep buying decent Premiership players like Carlton Cole.

RVN is one of the best strikers in the last ten years and if Harry can keep him fit and not overly rely on him it could be a massive signing for us. For such a big name players I'm sure Redknapp can convince the board to pay his wages especially if he's on a free.

I don't believe we will buy him though.

Mido's injury started at the ACN in Jan IIRC.

You'd rather have Bassong, Corluka or Dawson filling in for King and Woodgate than you would Huddlestone, Zokora or TAH.

The other striking options are all significantly inferior or square pegs. What's the point of deliberately leaving ourselves so vulnearble to the inevitable injuries and suspensions?

Personally I don't think it's about buying a 4th striker - Crouch can do that. We need to replace Pav with a 1st striker.

A good player, but past his best. He would score goals, however thats mad money to pay him. I think IF he was paid that amount it may cause more problems with other players within the squad.

Crouch would leave if that happened. We simply cant keep 4 strikers happy unless we have the extra European games in a season.

So if we buy a 1st striker who can fire us into the CL (or even secure us a UEFA spot) next season then that's sorted.

Mido and Bent both saw out 2 seasons and I'm sure Crouch would do the same. His next move will be down the league again so he'll also be a bit reluctant to do that too.

I really don't see the problem with changing your 4th striker every season or two - it's far better than leaving our whole season hanging by the thread of one potential injury.

If we can get a genuine 1st choice striker in January then i think thats a good idea. I just dont see any strikers better than what we have, moving in January. Its very rare that teams let their top striker leave mid-season. Plus most teams will hold out until the World Cup now.

RVN certainly isn't going to be 1st choice for long, so i'm not crazy about this particular transfer.
