Not a knee jerk reaction to what was a world class display from what must be the bargain of the last 5 years!

However this man has everything he tracks back good from set pieces he is a great passer of the ball ad can finish!

Interasting to know peoples thoughts on him vs ginola in my opinion I feel vdv has a lot more to
offer!

The selection of ginola is a player from this decade style of play and position.

If he stays long enough, he could be a legend IMO. He is showing real class and hunger.

until VDV carries the team a season, and wins player of the year then ginola all the way

Absolutely agreed! I was about to start a thread about this very topic!

He just seems to be that cut above everyone else and makes things happen just like Ginola always did.

Interasting kaz I see your point but this guy has made more of an immediate impact than possibly even that geeman guy we once bought! :p

We have to give levy a bit of credit here! I still think we should have bought a world class striker and in the long term we will look back at it and say what would of have been if we did but he didn't know that the best of our 4 average strikers was going to be out for so long!

Ginola was playing with Fox, Freund, Iversen, Edinburgh, Tarrico and other such shit. He scored wonder goals, beat players for fun, and was, and still is, a bloke that could turn me into a nudger!!!

Van der vaart could be the next in line to the throne.

VDV is a class above us and everyone that's played for us since Klinsmann. Maybe even more.

But what really is amazing is not just the skill, poise and vision... The effort. He really does give 110%.

Bit early for that isn't it? Ginola really was something special - you don't win both player of year awards otherwise.

If I remember rightly people were saying the same about Kranjcar last season...

Nice idea but, er, no chance!

Ginola was special, very special! He was as good a left winger as there was in the world at the time. He just wasn't consistent enough and never really got the chance to shine on the biggest stage.

My favourite spurs player by quite some margin!

VDV is a brilliant player, he is skillful and has vision and, should he stay long enough, will definitely earn a place in Spurs folklore. He's the kind of player you pay to watch, and he is not just a great playmaker, he's also a leader and a fighter. He seems to think, just a bit, that it's all about him, but so far he's justifying it.

Still not Ginola though. Sometimes I wonder if people forget quite how magnificent the guy was. The man is to this day the greatest entertainer I've seen at Spurs bar none, and he carried an otherwise abysmal side. He had Freund, Nielsen, Fox, Sinton, Ferdinand, Armstrong and Iversen as his accomplices. Much as we might criticise Jenas, Huddlestone, Crouch and Pavlyuchenko, they shit all over that lot.

Very high opinion of VDV, and high expectations, but he's got a long way to go before I can even contemplate putting him up there with Ginola in my esteem.

Ginola, was different class,i got really excited watching him play, something i havent done much over the years watching spurs,VDV looks very good, but for poise, skill, entertainment,he dosent even get close to Ginola, and at his age i doubt he ever will. still he looks a "spurs" player and im over the moon he signed for us.

Lets hope last nights "over eagerness" was a one off.

5 or 6 games in? Over 3 or 4 years worth? Ginola without a shadow of a doubt, though as has been mentioned, if he carries on like that week in week out for a few seasons, it'll be close. The only aspect of vdV'd game I've seen so far (at Spurs) that surpasses Ginola's is the effort and work rate. Ginola's vision, crossing, passing, shooting (though vdV does seem a bit special with the shooting), dribbling etc were better. But this is a few season's worth over a few games, so a Spurs comparison is hardly fair at this stage.

One more thing, to whoever said vdV has made more of an impression/impact than Klinsmann did... I think they're forgetting just how much of an impact Klinsmann made. No-one has made an initial impact like Klinsmann in every aspect.

VDV is the first person to make me question my sexuality since Le Gin

i wasn't a world class display. It was a good display and being an attacking midlfider (at home) he is in a privilaged position to get the ball in dangerous areas to show case his skills. However he missed a pen and got sent off with 30mins to go. not world class.

Ginola and him are similar in respect that the good things they do make poeple for get all to easliy the bad things they do. When VDV plays a blinder away from home agsint a good team like modric or King or woodgate or Gomes have done in a spurs shirt in recent history then I'll start to proclaim them world class.
