Dunno if this is accurate or if been mentioned elsewhere but

http://www.cartilagefreecaptain.com...vaart-injury-tottenham-hotspur-hamstring-tear

If you saw Rafael van der Vaart's reaction after being substituted out coming out of Tottenham Hotspur's match against Manchester City today and leaving us to play with 10 men, you might have thought it was just frustration at picking up a knock. Instead, it seems that the Dutchman's anger was probably because he had a serious injury that he knew the extent of. The news has come out post-match that van der Vaart has torn his hamstring and will be out for several weeks.
Rafa has already withdrawn from the Netherlands squad that had two Euro 2012 qualifiers in the next week, and we should feel a bit fortunate that his first week off will be in a week when we don't play. However, he might be out for a month or so after club football returns, which is a serious blow to the club. He was not good today or against Manchester United, but the club simply has no better options at the moment.
We wish Rafa a speedy recovery, both for his personal health and the fortunes of the team.

Yes I saw him get the injury, a few fans slated him for walking off when it was obvious he must have picked up a nasty injury.

I wish him a speedy recovery, he put in a shift today and never stopped working.

A real shame.

Anyone else secretly relieved? I'm not saying Rafa isn't a good player, but he's not really doing it for me. Maybe things will be different with a striker capable of being dangerous, but I'd be much more excited at the moment at the prospect of Adebayor & Defoe together rather than Ade & VdV the way he's playing lately.

I'm gutted, the only player at the club that has a brain and still wants to play for us. Ok, Niko too.

Yep Dimi, will move back to 442 I hope, and we'll probably play better.

we'll play better with an even more light weight midfield? considering VDV works his ass off to make it a 5 man mid and support whatever useless cardboard prop is supposed to be playing up front

Never saw anything like that today. He occasionaly gets close to the opposition's DM. Never tracks back to make a 3 man central midfield. He's been slow and selfish in his play lately. Nothing like the early form of last season.

I'm happy he's out, not because I think we play better without him, but because it would probably force Harry to play a conventional 442, which have always been our best formation. Furthermore, Defoe is a lot more dangerous when we play two up front because he gets more space to have shots from outside and around the box, with defenders having to cope with another striker as well. His partnership with Adebayor has potential to be deadly imo.

you didnt see VDV running his butt off when we were 3 down? closing down players who unfortunately just played triangles around him because none of his other lazy ass teammates would help him? dont know how you could miss that to be honest

Agreed.

If the rest of the players had VDV work ethics, we would not have lost 5-1.

Look at what Livermore did when he came on. Put more effort in than Krank and Hudd put together.

VDV will be sorely missed especially as he has Ade to work with now. Now Ade has to put with same the useless shits VDV had too.

Seeing as it looks as though we got parker, I take it we are not getting Diarra :bang::bang::bang:

That might have something to do with the fact that our strikers, Lennon and Bale look like they couldn't hit a cow's arse with a banjo.

I don't get why VDV gets stick after the game today, or the game vs United for that matter. He looks to me like the only player that plays with passion and drive and never gives up.

I've been drooling at the prospect of him together with Adebayor. Such a shame it'll be another month at least before we'll see that happen.

About the hamstring injury; He was plagued with injuries of this kind last season as well if I remember correctly. Not exactly promising, I can only hope that Harry lets him get proper rest and ensure he's 100% fit before playing him.

Agree VDV does put in a shift for us - if he had Bales speed and stamina he'd be unstoppable. Him and Modders are the only players who could come close to being called world class for us so his loss will be big.

There are some players who may be real quality, but when you look at the wider picture they actually do more harm than good for the shape of the team.

Well there goes the last miniscule reason (if ever there was) of keeping Crouch. I hope he's off to Stoke, Sunderland or whichever club that wants him by 01st Sep.

Unfortunately VDV was playing with carthorses Corluka, Krancjar and Crouch.....you wouldn't back any of them to beat my nan (gone since 1977) in a race. Back to basics is the way to go....complexity is not needed when you are in our situation. Defoe and Ade up front......a couple of wingers to deliver it, a moody Croatian to run at them and the manchild Tom to thread passes in his own enigmatic way. Looking forward to it.
