Vertonghens best position?

I know he was signed as a CB but I think he has the attributes to be a far more effective LB. He is a solid defender, loves going forward and has a fantastic cross on him. I think he would be wasted at CB tbh. That said, I used to think the same about Kaboul and I now would only play him at CB. I also like the added height having him at LB gives us rather than Benny.

Thoughts?

Looks much more at home in the middle if you ask me. Id prefer every player to be playing in their specialist position. Has very much the "phillip Albert's" about him. Can see him striding forward from centre back and becoming a centre midfielder while Sandro fills in. Him and Kaboul will be immense.

When Walker sorts his shit out and Benny returns (if he does) then id be happy with our back 4 although both full backs are prone to their moments.

if my calculations are correct its 5 goals conceded in our last 8 games since the arse. we havent been able to say that for a while.

I think him and Kaboul will be our best combination...he is not a natural left back and is not better than Benny at LB...

Get him in the middle consistently

He gets caught out of position and looks shaky. He's a cb and we should play him there now Benny is back.

He's OK at left back.
He's brilliant at Centre back.

If you play him left back against a team like Stoke, who are going to park the bus, then he will bomb forward and play well.
Put him left back against a team like United/Arsenal and he'll get torn to pieces. He's said himself that he doesn't like playing LB as he's not mobile enough to play against the tricky wingers.

I thought he was outstanding against Stoke and was MOM in most peoples eyes. He plays at LB for his country as well and with Caulker/Dawson/Kaboul at CB I think it would be quite a good move. The games ive seen him at CB, I havent been overly impressed tbh.

CB all day long it is important for us that we have at least one CB to walk the ball out from the back, lucky for us we have 3 of them Kaboul Vertonghens and Caulker who is having a blinding first full season at Spurs.

He is a centre back all day long! While he has looked ok at left back i do think players tend to pass him and get there cross in a little too often and part of me feels this is because he doesnt enjoy playing there.

CB, not enough pace to play at LB, enjoys CB more, potential captain, keep him happy, play him at CB and watch him fly..

Way out of position for left back. He only manages to do well because he is such an excellent player

He hasn't go the agility of a left back like benny

He's definitely more at home at centre back. Very composed on the ball, can bring the ball out from the back, reads the game well, lacks pace but makes up for it with his last ditch tackles and is very strong at defending crosses.

He does have some great qualities at left back, particularly his crossing. The problem comes with his positioning, his lack of pace against pacey wingers and he doesn't do enough to prevent crosses into the box.

I love his ability to come out from the back and it's clear that he has spent his career at Ajax because of his total football approach. I like that about Kaboul and Caulker as well. Sometime you need your centre backs to come out with the ball and add another dimension to the attack.

He's too slow and gets caught out of position way too much. Couple wingers in the Prem have already had field days with him at LB.
