When Liverpool signed him I thought it was irresponsible for the club to spend that amount on a central defender but he has been amazing this season and has completely stabilised the Liverpool defence. Its nice to see a defender get the recognition instead of the usual strikers.

Does this award have VAR ? No I stick by him as my choice....been an absolute rock for them this season.

A lot of people tried convincing themselves he wasn’t that good.

Those who could put their Liverpool dislike aside and be objective could see what a quality player they were buying.

A well deserved award and hopefully the only thing he wins this season.

He played in what is often referred to Mickey Mouse league or very weak league on SC until he was 24 (namely Groningen and Celtic)...
Yes, hindsight is a great thing but it annoys me to back to his Celitic when I remember that several on SC (including me) wanted Spurs to buy him from Celtic. Ok, Spurs already had Jan & Toby but still 10M wasn't much even back then...

He was my choice in the recent poll and it's nice to see a defender being recognised instead of the "headline making" strikers. First time in 14 years.

And deserves it, turned also rans into title contenders
