Everyone out there felt like a B player because Nuno left the WHOLE team that played at the weekend at home, no matter how professional you are this both make you feel like a B player and also the chemistry is way off.
Yep agree. Made this point in the Nuno thread. Whatever was expected of tonight's team the majority will be under no illusion that they are in the 'reserves'. Some players get spurred on by that kind of thing, others end up thinking 'what's the point'.

I don't think we've got many in the first category, and there is a danger that players like Gil or Stevie start to regress. Not saying Nuno can easily get round the fact we have a thin squad in terms of depth quality and relentless Thurs/Sun fixtures (and monthly international breaks), but he's got to watch out for festering grievances, especially with Winks and Dele getting in the ear of the more promising prospects on our ECL away days.

You say you don't understand people writing off this competition and then go on to write off the Champions League because you say we're never going to win it.
That doesn't sit well with me, I stick to the old idea "it is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low".
It's like prioritising the freight rover trophy over a chance of promotion to the premier League.
I'm not writing off the Champions League at all. I love it when we're in it. And obviously we go out to compete as far as we can when we are in it. But I don't think we should sacrifice the opportunity to win other trophies in an attempt to just get nearer to qualifying for the CL. We're fairly unlikely to qualify for the CL through the PL this season anyway, so going all out for the ECL doesn't affect it anyway.

I suppose what I'm saying is let's try to win the competitions we're actually in before we worry about the ones we haven't even qualified for.

Whenever we play a reserve team in Europa or conference, which us just about every time, we never perform to a decent level. It’s as if they just cannot be bothered. This has gone on since AVB,obviously not CL.
We never have any control in midfield. Winks and Alli really need to move on, sale or loan doesn’t matter. They need to get playing regularly again in a team that wants them.
For their goal Winks was highlighted moving from the D into the area in front of an opponent, leaving the central area around the D completely free for their player. His position is basically in front of the defence and he just walked away from it.
To win the group we just need to win last 3 games. The last of which is home to Rennes. We will be ahead on the head to head if we beat them.
Runners up mean we have to partake in a play off to get in the last 16.

I think the flaw in that argument has been well and truly demonstrated by our transfer business over the past few years. We've tended not to sign many big players (for whatever reason) when we were in the CL, and arguably our biggest signings (NDombele and Romero) both came when we didn't qualify.
Both! I personally agree with you that we should spend our energies on winning pots. However, I can totally understand the clubs outlook that the best chance to win pots is to have the greatest income and thus attract the best players to allow us to do so.

As for the Conference, I'd have gambled more heavily in trying to win tonight and thus progress, but we have 3 more games with 2 of those at home so I'm not giving up on it just yet.

Just caught up with the game. Not too bothered by the result as it’s obvious from the team selection that our priorities lie elsewhere.

I thought some players did ok like Lo Celso, and Gil, the defence played well and we only conceded a jammy goal.

Scarlett doesn’t look ready for first team football, he was bullied by their defenders all night long, though the referee‘s “performance“ did not help in that regard.

I’ve been one of Dele‘s biggest defenders, but I think it’s obvious he’s done, we will be lucky to get cash for him imo, and the best we can hope for is a loan just to get his wages off the books.

Bergwijn was pretty blood awful, he has plenty of skill, but I just don’t think he has it in him mentally to succeed. I may be being harsh here as he’s just coming back from injury, time will tell.
I wish Nuno had brought Markanday on earlier for him tbh, and think he needs to start overlooking the likes of SB, HW, and DA for kids just to give someone the chance to make an impact, because they don’t seem to have it in them to.

The referee was beyond a joke, some of the decisions that went their way were comical, Scarlett’s booking was a hilarious case of incompetence on the officials part. Scarlett was also unlucky not to get a penalty when he was pretty much assaulted in the box. The ref seemed to want to give every 50/50 there way. Maybe the premier league refs aren’t the worst in the world afterall.

Jammy goal? Was a class goal mate, more creativity in that one move than we showed all game.

Wow tough crowd in here tonight. We played a 2nd string who haven't played that much together. Lost 1-0 against Vitiesse 1st or close to 1st 11. We rested our core players for Sunday. We still have the 2nd leg. Alls not lost.

I think some of you like to moan.... just for the sake of it.
There is no second leg, they got all the points from this game.

Runners up mean we have to partake in a play off to get in the last 16.

If we can't beat a 3rd place Europa League team in a knockout tie - then we would not be winning the competition in any event.

Not worried if we have to play an extra knock-out round.

Nuno did not do this in a vacuum. This would have been discussed with Paratici - go all out to win each game in ECL, or give game time to reserves in away matches, and play a stronger side in home matches.

We rested our starters, we gave minutes to our reserves. That was the expected outcome of this match. Ideally we would have liked for the reserves to gain some points, but that was a secondary goal. We are still on track to play in the knock-out stage.

I can see why rotated like this, we have West Ham and Man Utd coming up and a League Cup tie all in the next 10-11 days. If we lose to the Spammers it looks like a bad move, a win or a decent performance and a draw on Sunday and he gets let off for it in my book. I think he's been let down badly and collectively by the likes of Dele, Winks, GLC, Davies, and Sanchez tonight. They should have had enough about them to get a result away at Vitesse Arnhem......

I don't think a draw will prove good enough to justify that result and putting our qualification in real danger
I think we will have to wait until Novemberat least to be sure whether this was a good move. But only a win on Sunday will be enough for me to think he's on the right track with this selection
A defeat and he's under severe pressure again.

I do not agree with this. You will have to be a special kind of player with special dribbling skill to stand out alone in games like this, you need a mix of good players with the so called B players

Everyone out there felt like a B player because Nuno left the WHOLE team that played at the weekend at home, no matter how professional you are this both make you feel like a B player and also the chemistry is way off.

Lo Celso are not able to shine when all the players are ball watching and not making runs, Lo celso is insane at Argentina because players around him move and he can use 1 - 2 touches and move himself. B Tottenham is not like that.

He has played dog shit for Tottenham A too. Could not care less how he plays for his national team tbh. We payed big money for him 2.5 years ago and despite the online love in for him for some reason he has been a massive failure so far

I dont think you can argue much with the team selection given it's a Thursday game and there are more important PL matches coming up.
Perhaps as fans we need to wise up and lower our expectation from our reserve players. Just because we know them doesn't make them better than less famous players at the same stage in a cup tie.
Or even worse, it tells you the gulf in ability between our first and reserve team.

I know the players should be professional and get in with their jobs but the shit show we had appointing a manager and one that wasn’t particularly wanted must have a negative effect on the team. Would you follow Donald Duck into battle? There is a lack of trust in the manager and it shows.
As much as I want to back the manager because he’s our manager, I’m struggling to see how he can take us to the next level.

A number of the players on show tonight haven’t done the business for the past 2 coaches as well as the current one.

Don’t make excuses for them.

Only disappointment for me was Bryan and Lo celso because I know they are better. Tanganga Rodon excluded the rest simply aren’t good enough. So I didn’t learn much I didn’t know.

I would definitely argue it was the wrong selection. I want us to win this trophy

If Nuno – or anyone on earth apart from those who already wanted him gone immediately – thought a loss tonight would in any way reflect on his job security he wouldn't have done what he did.
