I dunno, never having heard of this guy before I'll automatically assume he's shit so if we were that concerned about kaboul would we not be looking at bringing someone with a slightly better profile? I dunno, maybe I've just become so accustomed to us being able to scout as well as a walnut and he'll be another BAE. A signing who goes onto become on of the best players in his position in the league.
Thats my thinking. We need to start taking a chance on players like this for that reason. As was mentioned earlier and i know ive only seen a You Tube clip (although cant stop watching it!) but he looks like he can become a "Mr Versitile" for us.

And i'd love a player named Vlad in the team:D

Could be viewing him more like an insurance policy than a replacement.
Indeed. At a price where if he hits then fantastic but will at least hep us cope with any injuries this season etc. I still think that Dawson's days here are numbered. Probably not this summer but next summer...

If Vlad can prove himself we've got the replacement already or we go after Toby wassface at Ajax if Vlad doesn't.

And anyways, one report in an Italian newspaper. Might not even be true.

If he's good enough sign him up.

We've 4 centre backs on paper but there's big question marks over Kaboul's fitness, Verts may not be ready for the start of the season, Caulker is still young and learning, Dawson's a liability.

Yes, it would make sense for us as a club to have another CB in, especially one who is versatile and those players are always welcome, imo. If the worst doesn't happen then OK. If it does though, we've covered ourselves.

He may also be able to make an impact straight away. And he has Champions League experience (the You Tube vid shows mostly CL Games. Noticed Ajax, Dortmund and Chelsea there)

When Vert was off in HK, I worried a fair bid bec there is no cover. Sign him and we got good insurance esp Naughton may leave.

I remember he plays LB as well in FIFA.

Yep. Looks a lovely footballer. No concerns there. Just the usual adapting to a new league etc but wouldn't be overwhelmed at all. Actually could very well be a BAE type signing if this does happen. Under the radar but goes on to be mint.

Think you will find his secondary position is RB and DM, well according to Transfer Market. Ticking more boxes!

Wow - what a Youtube video for a defender!
Never seen him play before in my life so won't say let's sign him up, but it's just encouraging to hear that we've been linked with a 4-8m pound player who could be considered a good scouting purchase. Sort of risk we need to take every now and again because we can't buy 15m pound players in every position.

A bit of the Luiz/Vertonghen about him for sure. Let's just hope he's not a big tw*t like Luiz

Looks as good as Ledley, Rio and David Luiz coming out of defense.
Those are the kind of long balls Daws would be proud of.
Looks good defensively as well.
I know its the tube, but he looks a star in the making, yes please!!!

I only remember him from the Chelsea match in the EL and I thought he was good. I've never seen him other than that. I always thought a great indicator of a defender with great technique is being able to slide tackle from behind without even making any contact with the player on the ball. He appears to be able to do that pretty consistently and some of those driving runs you would be impressed if it were a midfielder, let alone a CB. I wouldn't mind him in the least especially given his age and the price.

we don't need him if (big if!) everyone is fit. verts+kabs+caulk+daws (+maybe even naughts or zeks) is enough.

Agree, plus his obvious versatility too!

Never heard of him but he looks class on Youtube. Start negotiating now and he could be ours by 2016.

Perhaps not, but he's 23
Dawson is 29

In 2 years or so, Dawson will retire or decline, by which point Vlad will be 25, and could be one of the most sought after CBs in Europe. Plus, your 'big if' is indeed very big, what with Kaboul looking potentially injury prone from here on in. Fryers looks hit or miss at the moment and he's not ready to start in the PL yet. Naughton is not a centre half.

If we're sure about his potential and talent, and he's relatively cheap, now is the time to buy, because we won't get him when he's the finished article.

Dawson has no pace, so I see no reason why he'd have to retire at 31. He could easily be with us another 5 years if we wanted to retain him.

Unlikely that Daws will retire or decline in 2 years, defenders tend to carry on into mid thirties unless injuries like Ledley had take their toll.

Kaboul maybe a worry because there's rumours that the kind of injury he had may be one that impacts him going forward
I think we need three experienced CB's and I'd be happy enough with Daws, Eunice and Verts if they are all considered fit, however if there were question marks over Eunice then I'd prefer we got a more experienced CB because it does appear CB's tend to pick up more longer term injuries over a season than a lot of players in other positions, or at least we have had that over the years.

I'm not really convinced by Caulker, but he's still young and I guess deserves a chance and if he is happy as fourth choice then getting a younger player in would maybe impact his development.

I look at a player like Tasci, he looks a very good CB and though I might be wrong, assume wouldn't cost a fortune. I think Felipe Santana looked very good at Dortmund, just limited game wise because of how good Hummels and Subotic are, he recently went for 1 mill euros. There seems that there are decent experienced players that are gettable at reasonable prices, I'm not quite sure of the benefit of gambling on a raw young CB unless the scouting team are really convinced that the player will develop into a really top player because cb's generally take a bit longer to step up to their peak form
