94/95..

Starting the season with a pointdeduction, winning in court.

Semi FA-cup

Klinsmann and the famous 5!!!

Was such an enjoyable season with Klinsi in erratic form!!

For me the best season so far is 1990-1991. We weren't great in the league (11th), reached 5th round in the League Cup, but we won the FA-Cup after extra time against Nottingham!! (2-1, scorers: Stewart, Des Walker o.g) Squad in the final was: Thorstved, Edinburgh, Van den Hauwe, Sedgley, Howells, Mabbutt, Stewart, Gascoigne (Nayim), Samways (Walsh), Lineker, P. Allen.

In the FA Cup semi's we beat Arse 3-1!!! (scorers: Gascoigne, Lineker 2)

Of course there are much greater seasons before that, but I don't have any kind of personal experiences from those. My love for Spurs started because of Lineker, I was following him and he was my idol. I didn't have any favourite team before Lineker came to Spurs, but then it just happened: Lineker was gone in 1992, but Spurs stayed!! So for a new fan (since 1989) back then, the winning of the FA-Cup in 1991 was a tremendous achievement!!

I wasn't and am not located in England, so it wasn't so easy to follow my favourite team back then, the main sources were magazines and newspapers. It is soooo easy nowadays because of the internet and satellite-TV!! And at that time it was almost impossible to visit White Hart Lane/London, because my parents weren't so eager to pay the travel expences and flight tickets were sooo expensive if compared to present prices and salaries.

Klinsmann was the opposite to erratic. He was consistently awesome in a very powerful german way.

I went 80-81 but as I said in my post I want 80-82 :)

and of course 60-61 was the best but I only had a Cup final on TV, booklets and articles to go on for my primary school brain - so that got me into Spurs but unlike people like 57 and Cosmic and others I don't have the golden memories they have

Amazed to find out we were good in 89-90. Must have spent too much time in pre pub drinks. I think it was marred by the takeover battle.
4 years are right up there 87 81 91 & of course 61.

An unsatisfactory deadheat between 87 & 91.

Are we all done voting? At the first time of asking....

Wot! no votes for the nearly all conquering 2nd division season. Hull, Mansfield, Southampton, Blackpool how can anybody forget these momentous clashes.

Yep, someone had a shout for 95 too but I cant add extra years once the voting has started.

I must say I really enjoyed the relegation threat year in the 90s. Our support was massive and very passionate (especially away). Mobbed Selhurst park and a few other London grounds, seemed to be 10s of 1000 of yids on the march. To be honest unlike last season it was nice to have meaningful games near the end of the season, instead of all the players in Thomas Cook mode.

Thank you, but I'd prefer to forget being a nervous wreck for a whole week before the Southampton game.

Thinking about it...
There would have been no Ossie & Ricky, Chas n Dave,
maybe no 6 visits to Wembley in about 15 moths.

The horror !

Our club and life as we know it would clearly have fallen apart if we hadn't been relegated. Incidentally, does anyone wonder why General Burkinshaw walked and what would have happened if he had stayed?

We could just say that for 1963, read 1978. someone did actually say 63, but has not voted.

Yes it was I who voted the latter option. I'd say 2006/07 was amazing for for the post (started to support spurs after) 1991 generation, we'd been shite for years then we finish 5th for the second year in a row, got to the League Cup Semi-Final, FA Cup quarter-final and UEFA Cup Quarter-final, during which we created a new British record, most amount of consecutive wins by a British club in Europe, 8. Then there was Keane and Berbatov, what a partnership! Only if King had been fit for the whole of that season.....

Edit: Whoops, missed the "old farts" bit, sorry.

I had a season ticket in 90/91. I also went to most away games too (League and cup). Even, shitty Oxford ground in the middle of a housing estate and the away end down an alley at the side of someone's drive. Then 25% of the pitch being obscured by massive fences and posts that you could barely see through.

I have to say that we played shite for most of the season. I am often accused of being an atypical Spurs fan as I am always wildly optimistic and have faith depite all realities. I shout rant cheer and scream and don't accept defaet till the final whistle. (True shelfite at heart) Yet, even I turned up at Wembley for the Semi in 91 hoping we would not embarrass ourselves too much. We had been fairly poor all season. But like Holland 4-1 Germany 1-5 and Croatia 4-1, my team put on a performance that noone believed possible and defied all the odds.

Weras in 1987 we actuallty played great football all season and should have won both cups at least. The club stated to turn sour for me in that 91 season and I drifted away from being a true every game fanatic to just a supporter.

1901 was a blinder. I'd just got back from the Boer War - and we were still in the Southern League. But we won the FA Cup. Celebrated by getting pissed for a penny. That's £4,812 in today's money. And I still had change for a knee-trembler round the back of the bus station. They hadn't invented buses yet, so it wasn't that busy. Anyway...mumble mumble
