Not excusing it, but this honestly isn't anything new. The likes of Bryan Robson used to get dragged home at 3am, the night before match days, when he was at Boro.

Smartphones have made it easier to catch them out is all.
Last week, I was talking to someone who was part of Manchester United's security team in the 1990s, who explained that they used to spend a significant proportion of their time trying to defuse and hush-up various "indiscretions" by United's younger first team players, and they were very good at it. Because of smartphones, they would be completely unable to do this now.

Same with almost anything these days. Its like how people think scandals, racism, and noncing are rampant now, just because there's more visibility.

Stuff like the Woodgate/Bowyer scandal back in 2001 used to happen all the time. They were just caught.

The daft thing is I bet there are girls who hang around the clubs where players go with the intention of trying to get pictures of them doing something that they can sell to the press. It's one of the things you g players must get warned about by their clubs from an early age before they get famous, right? So on that assumption, a guy like Rooney should really know better.
It’s nothing new.
My Mrs would go to the nightclubs in Cambridge trying to pull Cambridge United players back in the 90s.
Never succeeded lol

Even further back than that... My Mam used to scale the fences at Newcastle City Hall in the 60s to go and see bands play. She nearly dragged Ray Davies off the stage by his trouser hems...

It looks like the "blackmail" story 's finally reached a sensible conclusion. According to the Daily Mail...

"Three party girls who posed semi-naked in a hotel room with a sleeping Wayne Rooney (left) have issued an apology to the footballer. Brooke Morgan, Elise Melvin, both 21, and their pal Eleanor Hoggarth, who was also present, approached Rooney's lawyer, his spokesman said. Snapchat model Tayler Ryan (right), 21, who appears in some of the pictures, was not among the girls who approached Rooney (middle inset). They have also handed over the copyright to him of the pictures showing them dancing around him scantily clad while he is slumped in a chair asleep. A spokesman for Wayne Rooney said: 'The three girls who took the photographs contacted Wayne's lawyers and volunteered to hand over all pictures that were taken that night and the copyrights in them. They have also, at their own suggestion, made a written apology to him for the events that took place and the embarrassment caused. These were three decent young women who went for a night out. They did not expect Wayne to end up in their company and are remorseful about how things turned out with the pictures. They got carried away and did something they later regretted. They did not expect it to end up in the mainstream media after it was posted on social media and they decided to take steps to put things right. It would be wrong to say no money changed hands because when a contract is drawn up there must be a sum and in this case it was a nominal £1. They have fulsomely apologised because they wanted to do what they saw as the right thing and draw a line under the matter.' "

A good ending. I doubt it will be Wayne's last bit of trouble though. He doesn't seem to learn.

I'm so pleased there were no smart phones/social media when I was a teen/in my early 20s. Video of me gurning my face off at some rave every weekend probably isn't what I'd want out there for the world to see.

As I posted at the time, it never was a 'blackmail' story, not really. Even the Mail had the good sense (!) not to mention the B word in its summing up article.

I mean, what cunning mastermind blackmailer posts photos, that hint at a whiff of scandal/impropriety about them, on social media in clear light? They wouldn't, of course, which is why the police were not remotely interested and, I would guess, somewhat miffed that they got involved, briefly it would seem, at all.

No crime appears to have been committed by either party, apart perhaps from a minor copyright issue, and a pathetic attempt of 'deflection' by the plaintiff.

So Rooney has (according to him) gone to a party with a couple of friends, and has gone Bo-Peep in a chair, and then these three girls have seen him there and started dancing around him. Then, some brain donor has taken a snapshot of this and put it out on social media so his family and his club have seen it in all it's glory.

So now, all three girls have apologised to Rooney, saying they were just having a good time because 'girls just want to have fun' etc. Fair do's.

So who's the bright spark who decided to alert the police?

You know what, I don't even give a shit.

Ok, balls on the line, I think Wayne Rooney would be a astute signing for us for a couple of seasons.

Can play up top as cover for Kane or in behind, hard working, determined and would be great experience for our young English squad.

Am I mad?
You might be onto something here, Paratici loves a free agent.
