This sounds ridiculous even writting this, but talksport got me thinking about Rooney's future and where he could end up next season (if leaving rumours are to be believed). They all talk of the likes of Real, Barca, Munich blah blah - for would any of them seriously take him? Chelsea perhaps but I can't see him in Italy or at one of the Spanish big boys.

Now if we do secure CL and with the new tv rights coming into play next season, could we put together the package? Could Levy absolutely go mental and sign Rooney to show Bale that were serious on being a big boy?

I'm posting this for discussion rather than having a belief that this could happen. Personally I'm hoping the tv deal will feed through to the fans on ticket prices and wages are capped off but I think Rooney would be great for us.

Was literally just about to make a thread about him.

Don't reckon he'll leave Utd though, it's purely rumours made up by the papers.

He's dropped for a game and suddenly he's leaving - such crap journalism!

Even Rooney himself would admit that Man U's tactics were spot on for that game and they probably would have qualified had it not been for the red card. Even if you are disappointed to miss out surely you have to respect a good decision and wait at least a few months of being dropped before throwing toys out of the pram?

Yeah I don't see him leaving United at all unless they want rid and then you worry that with the money they get for Rooney they would go for Bale.

BUT, playing along... I think he would be great for us, exactly the kind of striker up top we need, though I wonder if it is his preferred position?! Hard to say, I always saw him more as someone who liked to run between the channels rather than spearhead the attack and I have always thought he looked less comfortable for united and England when asked to be the main front man.

But he has talent, so IF he was available and IF he wanted to come, you would have to be happy with the acquisition!

Never gonna happen though.

moved to General Football as there is no link to us.

also think his wages are far too big for us. So even before i think if we would want him or not its heading for a no.

I think the rumour about him leaving started from Roy Keane's comments when he saw Rooney wasn't starting the match.
Rooney is class no doubt but if he is going to move then I feel he is going to move to a club that can guarantee C.L football year in and year out as well as trophies.

But I think Levy wouldn't be interested anyway as he has no sell on value.

It makes sense to me that Man U would seek to offload him for something like £20m. £250,000pw / £12mpa could pay 2 or even 3 great players wages.

He is prone to injury (and the odd suspension) and they have RVP and Welbeck.

And he is a git.

However, not sure if Levy would bring him here, but I imagine he would be interested in coming. One thing is certain, there would be fewer clubs interested in him than there were last time he was itching to leave Man U.

It's an interesting problem caused by the huge wages he was able to command. His and other agents might like to ponder this (but I won't hold my breath). If you end inflate your wage demands and up costing your club so much, the time might come when those sums become a liability, and so restrict your chances of playing CL football at the club of your choice.

After all, what is he? 27-28? He should be more or less at his peak, and he's dropped for "the biggest match of all time ever, honest." ©ITV/J Mourinho

Buying him might impress Bale to stay, though...

I think he will leave. It will be nice if it was to us but highly unlikely.
Fergie has oft been quoted this season about Wayne's shape/lack of fitness and there could be bitterness about Rooney wanting to leave a few windows back.
Come play at your favourite ground Wayne.

Hes having a bad season yes, but hes the same player IMO. Would love him but we could never, I repeat NEVER, be able to afford his wages at this moment in time.

His stats are good but he isn't the same player he was two, three years ago.

He hasn't peaked but he needs to get into better shape.

I honestly think he was a better player at 18 (Euro 2004 time) than in recent years. Back then he had a bit of a pace to go with his technical ability, now he struggles to get away from defenders.

I think I may be alone in this, but I wouldn't want him.

He wouldn't have the right attitude and he's getting progressively worse each season.

I'd rather have someone who would spend his best years with us. Not his worst.

He's declining as a player.

No he is not. Look at the game on the weekend, he set up two of Kagwa's goals and scored a screamer himself. The guy is a magician on the pitch, and will remain that way for a few more years yet.

Also considering the commercial interest he would generate, I think Levy could be tempted if he was reasonably priced. His wages are always going to be the stumbling block though.

His game is based on power rather than silky skills, and it looks this season and indeed since last season his power is on the wane. So the Rooney of today is not good enough for the power houses of Spain and Italy. In fact I won't swap him with Bale even if Fergie offers another 10 million.
