He never had any guile but that's not a negative, you either have it or you don't.

For lack of a better word though his drive has gone.

I agree. Oddly the opposite of Samson, he's been that way since he acquired hair...

At Uni they believed that in sport you will reach your prime ten years after starting the sport professionally, in that time you will master your technique and then your body will most likely slowly decline and struggle unless you really do look after yourself hence in sports like swimming people often retire mid twenties

Rooney has been in the sport for two long whilst not looking after himself both mentally and physically. I felt fergie has been trying to get rid of him but problem is not too many clubs can afford his wages and want him at the same time

Lets face it he is never the player we really hoped he would become and like a ageing player he still has moments of absolute brilliance but he has been poor imo, the thing I would say is that when he still a good player who can consistently score but he isnt one of the bests and to say 4/5 strikers have been better than him this season highlights how much he has struggled

Last summer he played Barcelona in preseason and look so unfit is was insane and then he was absolute terrible in that match, most of the man utd fans then said he was off soon and when they brought Van Persie alot were saying he will be gone as soon as they can find a buyer. Most United fans think they are trying to sign Lewandoski this summer which when looking from the outside looks crazy as they have 4 strikers

I can understand the Lewandoski link now.

From my Man U supporting brother:

Not been quite the same player since he injured his ankle against Bayern in the CL a few seasons back. He was in the best form of his career then(genuine word -class) and despite some other very good spells has never been quite as good.

Or to stay at United is 4/11. To be honest, he'll probably stay, if not I could see him at PSG. Would be very intrigued to see him at Bayern though, or to see how many he manages to score if he played in Spain. In terms of which shirt suits him the most, hence me posting the pics, I would say either PSG or surprisingly Real Madrid

A goal every two games for United and countless assists too. If he hadn't sacrificed himself for the better of the team by playing out wide and centre midfield it probably would have been more. Without him last year they would have never been near the title and he's averaged more than a goal a game in the league this season. I'd say he's lived up to his billing, he's just unlucky to be playing in the Messi and Ronaldo era where their goalscoring exploits make everyone else's look average. He hasn't quite done it for England, but his goal scoring record is very similar to Messi and Ronaldo's at international level.

I think this whole thing has been blown out of proportion anyway and I'd be surprised if he left. If they were to sell I think he'll end up in Madrid.[/quote]

Im sorry I disagree, last season he did well for them but he never looked like the player from 2 seasons ago where he was the best player in the league and thats despite him being a couple of goals off that tally but him and Valencia were sensational together in that season whereas last season he didnt look untouchable like he did a couple of season back where he was one of the best in the world

As for now, I couldnt see too many clubs having him, Madrid wouldnt sign him they want Falcao last time i checked but there isnt a huge list of teams that would want and could afford him, this all boils down to the fact that he acted like a prick to united during the last contract debacle and they wont go through that again tbh

As for his currently ability he does no doubt run for the team and give alot but he isn't playing like a great centre forward and this season evidence, I dont think he could claim to be one of the top 5 or top 10 strikers in the world tbh. Like I said, I never thought United needed Van Persie in the summer until I saw rooney in preseason and then all of a sudden I could see why this was rumoured and etc.

Last season he scored 27 goals in the league, with their next highest player scoring 10 goals. I'd say that's more than doing well. I agree that he's not playing like a great centre forward, but that's because he's mainly not playing as one. He's been playing deep of Van Persie most of the season or out wide at times. He isn't playing to the maximum of his limits, but it's not uncommon for a player to not look his best after a International tournament in the Summer.

I don't watch enough football outisde of England and Spain to say whether he's in the top 10 strikers in the world, but he's definitely in the top 5 in the league. Taking age and everything like that out of it, I'd only rate Van Persie, Suarez and Aguero over him, and Aguero isn't exactly having a great season either.

I forgot about Real Madrid's interest in Falcao tbh. If they don't get him then I'll think they go for Rooney if United decide to sell. I agree that few clubs could afford him, but I think any club that could afford him and are looking for a striker would be stupid not to go for him.

I totally agree on paper he looks awesome and the stats make him seem untouchable but last season he didnt seem untouchable as he did the last time he reached that tally and he didn't have the same effect in the big games like that season before he got injured at Bayern. Also the position change has affected him but hasnt linked up with Van Persie as people suggested tbh and as for running selflessly for the team, Welbeck has been doing that this season by playing on the wing and arguably been better to the team than rooney(who has turned in to a flat track bully) who's goals against City and Fulham were the only goals against a top half team from him. There is no doubt he is still a very very good player when fit but he doesnt look after himself as well as he should and he has been in the game for long time

Also he didnt have a great tournament either tbh in the summer

thats fair enough about europe but there are definitely 5 strikers in the league playing better than him atm; Van Persie, Michu, Ba, Tevez and Suarez tbh. Also bale played as a second striker in the first half against arsenal so I could put him in there at a push tbh:D

He's going to PSG because he's a greedy little ugly bastard.

Why the fuck would he come to us when we won't pay him more than he's on?

It's simple.

Assuming it's not just BS spouted by the papers, we couldn't even afford what he'd want in wages, however allow some rose tinting assuming he'd move for football reasons and would take a cut in wage and come for the challenge his other half from what little i've seen has beluga champagne tastes i can't see it lasting long on what Levy would pay if they moved to London.

Also i have little fondness for the red nosed bastard but i can't recall too many occasions where he's got it wrong when letting a player go.

Having said that he does make some baffling calls, he never really got the best out of Berbatov and i think he really stifles Rooney certainly the last two or three seasons.

Ironically last time his contract came up we had two people who IMO would've really got Rooney motoring, Modric and Redknapp.

I've no idea on this but has he burnt out early?

Depends what monies ManU and Wayne want this summer.

Still think he will move in the next 12 months.
