Dont think that was the best view for the pen, but he was looking for it and going down before contact, but there was contact unlike Eduardo's and Eboue's

So Eboue gets off because he's worse at it than Rooney?

I'm not disagreeing, just pointing out how much of a cockup they have made of this.

The system is going to have huge problems but in the Eboue-Rooney example it makes sense. Rooney gets the harsher punishment because his dive was a game changing one as it allowed Man Utd back into the game whereas Eboue's resulted in people laughing at him because it was so bad.

But if someone, for example, wins a freekick by diving, are they any more in the wrong than someone caught out by the ref for trying to do the same thing? They are both trying to con the ref so why should one recieve a ban and the other a yellow card?

For me Eboue is far worse, the same as Eduardo's

Rooney used a challange to go over and win the pen. There was contact between the keeper and Rooney

Eboue and Eduardo antisapated the challange was coming but there was no contact.

I think the only dives you can punish are the ones that clearly have no contact and the player does throw him self to the ground.
Anything more and we would need to start analysing every challange made over 90mins

For me, although Shrek went down fairly easily, it wasn't a dive. He fell under contact, didn't make much of an effort to stay on his feet but it's a clear penalty.

Eboue's was shocking. Absolutely shocking.

I agree, I think if there's a bit of contact it's still a dive, but not a punishable one. If it's obvious simulation without any contact where they are clearly just trying to con the ref, they ought to be banned.

It was actually quite similar to the one Johnson won against us. There wasn't much contact there either, and Johnson arguably made the most of it, but if the keeper doesn't get the ball there's only one decision.

Barry didn't interfere with play I don't think.

Let's hope it comes back to haunt them.
